TheOkapi - Sensitive Scout...So Do It PROPERLY!

Here was I, cruising around the 'H' and noting who had recently joined the ranks, when your name caught my eye; I thought 'If he needs no new toys, what on earth is he doing here?!'
This has probably got to be the best 'new toy' I've come across recently!
You will, no doubt, be greeted by one of the ACE's or a Gaurdian Angel before too long, but allow me, an humble Researcher (like yourself) and Scout, to welcome you to H2G2. However you came to us, kick back, explore and enjoy!
Welcome, and may you spend many happy hours (if you're anything like me, far too many hours!)making loads of new friends and writing sackful's of interesting stuff for our delight! Oh, and Happy New Year as well, don't overdo the smiley - bubbly or the smiley - ale! Have a smiley - magic time, speak again soon!

Hello He Who Needs No New Toys!! smiley - winkeye
(Hi TheOkapi! Good job smiley - smiley better than I can do smiley - ok)
AAHHHHHH!!!! You have a mobile phone!!!! *makes odd choking noise*
*stops making noise*
Sorry... instinctive reaction to finding out anyone has a mobile or WAP... please don't feel intimidated or anything, I can't help it...
I'm one of the ACEs, which basically means I've volunteered for the 'official' job of meeting and greeting newcomers to the guide - a 'welcome mat' as someone said. smiley - smiley I think they were being sarcastic when they did say it, but it's a fair description I guess. Except that not all of us are flat and hairy... smiley - winkeye
If you feel a need to meet completely different people, then the Beach http://www.h2g2.com/A207686 is a good place to do it.
If you have any questions at all, then you can drop by my page (just click on my name) and ask, or go and ask all the ACEs at their homepage http://www.h2g2.com/Aces and they will do their utmost best to help you. smiley - biggrin Cos we're friendly people. smiley - winkeye

Hope you enjoy h2g2!

He Who Needs No New Toys

Thanks for the hello. The toy thing - obsessing, then buying all sorts - has been plaguing me for years, hence my name.

I suppose this site is a toy, but it should be a better use of my time, cheaper and more human oriented.

See ya, maybe on the musician's guild.

He Who Needs No New Toys

Thanks for the welcome.

Why the choking noises when you hear about WAP? It seems like the beginning of something really big.

WAP is real new here on the east coast of the US - maybe it's old, boring and obnoxious out your way. I used to think that (showy) cell phone users were just "too cool" for their own good, but hey there's no going back, plus I'm a computer geek, so I gotta get with it.

See ya.

That's OK! smiley - smiley

Yeah, that used to be the attitude here (SE Britain). Now it's the 'accepted' thing to have a mobile, and amazing but cool if you have a WAP. However, there was some recent survey in Britain and apparantly something like 52% of people have one or more mobiles. So I'm in the minority, and being the mad person I am, I want to stay that way...! My mum recently bought a mobile, and the rest of the family threatened to disown her... smiley - winkeye we didn't though. But it's kind of natural here- either you've got a mobile or you don't want one, for whatever reason.
But I hope you enjoy your time here on h2g2, it's a brilliant place. smiley - ok I've been hooked on ot for about 9 months now... smiley - biggrin brilliant place...

See ya around!
