Da hast Du ja richtig in die Suppe gespuckt, mein Lieber!

Ich bin seit Mai be h2g2 und nur selten habe ich gesehen, daß ein Newbie (den Namen finde ich übrigens nicht weiter schlimm) oder sonst jemand, die Leute so schnell auf die Palme bringen konnte, wie Du.

Da ich gesehen habe, daß Du zu Deinem Nick etwas auf Deutsch hinzugefügt hast, nehme ich an, Du verstehst die Sprache.

Es steht jedem frei Kritik zu üben, finde ich und darum geht's mir auch nicht. Die Frage ist nur, WIE man das macht und ob man mit dieser Kritik eine Veränderung herbeiführen will oder aber nur herummaulen will. Falls es Dir ums Letzteres geht - na, Bravo, hast Du's mit links geschafft. Solltest Du jedoch wirklich der Meinung sein, daß h2g2 anders gestaltet werden sollte, dann wäre es glaube ich besser, ein wenig den Umgangston zu ändern. Du siehst ja selbst, daß einige hier ziemlich aggresiv wurden; das wundert ja auch nicht, denn keiner mag's, wenn er hört: Mensch, Ihr seid ja alle dämmlich, weil mir es hier nicht passt.

Es ist eine Gemeinschaft und die Leute mögen es hier zu sein. Man kann sich streiten, ob alle Entries wirklich das Gelbe vom Ei sind oder nicht (hast schon recht: einige sind schlicht und ergreifend langweilig), aber man muss sie ja nicht lesen, oder?

Die Idee war es (übrigens von DNA selbst ins Leben gerufen, also vom Mißbrauch des Namens kann nur wahrlich keine Rede sein) Leute zusammenzuführen, die die 'Per Anhalter'-Bücher lieben und auf dieser Basis, aber nicht unbedingt nach exakt demselben Muster, eine site zu kreiren. Es gibt diverse Clubs, Pubs und andere Interessengemeinschaften hier und ich finde Jeder kann etwas für sich finden.

Kritik ist gut, aber sie muß konstruktiv sein und nicht beleidigend. Und das warst Du teilweise, was ich echt schlimm fand.

Es liegt an Dir, ob Du versuchst hier etwas Neues beizutragen, indem Du ein Entry verfasst oder eine Art Club bildest und versuchst die Leute dafür zu interessieren.

Du bist erst seit ein paar Stunden hier, ich finde jetzt ist's an der Zeit, daß Du Dich richtig umschaust - und das dauerst bestimmt einige Tage (so war's bei mir).

Dann kannst Du Dich immer noch entscheiden, was Du machst: bleiben und versuchen Spass zu haben, wie wir alle hier oder gehen, weil's Dir echt zu blöd wird.

Well, I hope you understood my comment above. Please do try not to be rude to the people. This is really fun here and I'm pretty sure, you can find a place for yourself and make also new friends. Methinks tolerance is the word, which is most important at h2g2. We all are different, have different interests and opinions. That's what are so interesting for me here. Everybody tries to be open-minded, but it's hard to handle when you're making acquaitances this way.

This here is a virtual community and all of us want to have fun, but not necessary exactly the same way as in the Hitch Hiker-books.

There are several communities, created by members, like Guardian Angels, Choir Society, Foxy Manor, Village de la Vavoom among many others. People write entries about buisquits - okay, that's true, but also about music, books, places, events, stars, movies. There are entries about practical things like how to renovate a bathroom, but also about Prokofiev and Mozart. It's something, YOU can choose, in common to your interests, so give h2g2 a try, take a few days to browse the guide, be more tolerant and less - pardon me - rude and let's talk then about what you feel, okay

He/She has little to do with it. My less than formal sentence structure implied in a conversational way the unseen subject "it" as in "It is curious that she..." It was never intended as a She/He thingy at all atall... quite asexual, perfectly neutered. But it remains curious that She never mentioned the BOF and it's Cellar full of madmen, anarchists, and rabble whose motto "Nothing Is Sacred" is written in blood above the electric hearth... I would have thought most of the tribal elders would be glad to see Xolin off the streets. And we at the Cellar could use a good larf.

Oh, okay, you're right - I remember as the guys from BOF Inn had stolen our X-mas tree from Crossed Purposes!

I only asked, cause - as you can see - English is not my native, so I wasn't sure, if I understood well.

English is a vary (pun intended) complex language, if for no other reason than it is spoken in so many places. And every community evolves its own dialect, figures of speech and unique cultural touchstones of reference. As a Canadian I am exposed to much American television and print and sometimes fall into Americanisms, the most damning of which is the use of a conversational tone in the written word. I love this site because you can see the wide range of usage from the broad southern US openess to the tight ass Brit stuffiness. From Oxbridge wit and Cockney slang to ghetto rap and Yankee illiteracy.

You seem to speak German quite well. I've forgotten most of what I knew of it... nine mit the oomlaut fuggengruven... well, maybe I've lost it completely.
And no we ain't given them Christmas trees back. We burned 'em.

You're right, although I'm not able to figure those differences out.

As for your German... you seem to lost it completely, but I'm happy to inform you, that your Dutch is on its way to you .

And you are right - my German is not bad, after 15 years in Germany it should be so, it's not my native though. I'm Polish and live in Warsaw/Poland

Absotively, the nuances of the English language are complex and largely illogical - as a Canadian, however, at least you speak something that at least resembles "proper" English! I am afraid that the Coca-Colanisation of the world has introduced so many "Americanisms" that many local/colloquial/dialect phrases and words are being totally eroded (the word "butt" has so pervaded the language that I even here older people - who should know better - using it). I do like this site for exactly the reasons you have quoted - the diversity of culture. Es gibt einen ziemlich großen elektrischen Hamster in meinen Schlafanzügen....

I am well. I have had a little bit of a wander around the site - sat in on a few conversations (without putting in my two penneth) and read quite a few bios. I must admit, there are quite a few funny and interesting people here. There are also some slack-jawed mouth-breathers from the shallow-end of the gene pool as well...

Anyway - "interesting" German sentences are just my practice in German. Take a stupid statement - preferably involving large electric hamsters in incongruous situations - and translate. Fun for all the family....

Sounds like the way I confused my German class. In my case I just made the most improbable sentance possible.

Don't ask me to speak German though...

Anyway, I am the resident drummer up for mathematical articles on the Guide. I attempt to make maths fun for the layman (perhaps a foolish goal but one I persue with zeal).

Maths - ah, now there's a subject I remember from my schooldays...how I abhorred my maths teacher! The dreadful hours we spent learning all manner of things that had absolutely no bearing on the life of a teenager...Today, however, I seem to have rekindled my interest in mathematics - well, Physics, actually - and I can see much that is interesting in this field. If you have some interesting/unusual mathematical hypotheses/problems, I would certainly like to read your articles.

As for the German, I'm still learning it (and Italian, too) and I just think it a lot more fun to write something a bit silly in it rather than the (unintentionally) stupid stuff they write in the text books like "Please replace my light bulb..."

Xolin, as everywhere you can find nice and intelligent as well as some stupid humans in here. I like to meet both kinds of, the first group reminds me how much more should I know, the second makes me happy, cause I'm wiser then they (horrible I am, no?)

The Canadian naval tactic decribed above is lost on most Navies of the world, no matter the language. During the last great war, several of our largest Universities were reported sunk.

Yes, Kasia, language is no barrier to true wit and humour. But the English have refined their own linguistic subtleties to the point one never knows how to take what is said. Such sophistication, besides being fun sometimes can become downright embarassing or boring. If I am amused at accidental misuse or misspelling by persons for whom English not is the first language it is with no more malice given. Only two things in life are certain - death and syntaxes.
