Okay it's time to confess...

If it's time to confess, is this the place to confess?
Forgive me, for I have sinned.
I have not felt like w*rking since I got back to work.
I insist on calling today Wednesday. Tomorrow I will call Thursday.
I have not done any decent housecleaning since the mid-1980s.
I wake up in the morning with a desire to play hooky.
Autumn is coming, but I don't have the slightest inclination to get ready for it.
I hope none of the above is a mortal sin.

It's not so much indecent as nonexistent. I sweep the floor about once a month to get the rubble cleared away, and I somehow manage to take out the garbage and wash the dishes, but that's about it.
I am so lazy, it's lucky nobody else has to see my place.

Only if you want to, Pan. You could claim a medical exemption.
Just sit quietly in the back room (Don't laugh *too* loud ) and listen to the rest of us sinners spill our guts and reveal our sordid, tawdry affairs.

I already confessed... except I must also confess I'm having a great time watching the wonderfully intelligent h2g2 researchers handle a rather foul mouthed newcomer who thinks his own political opinions and views are handed down from on high...

Though you might want to read a couple pages back to get the real hang of it..

Hi, Batty.
I don't really want to jump into that other thread, especially as I have mixed feelings about Bush after watching "Fahrenheit 9/11." I felt sorry for him as he seemed to be trying to figure out whether to continue reading the storybook to the schoolchildren, or to disappoint them and respond to the terrorist acts in New York. How would you like to have been in such a position? The choice he did make was at least dignified. He didn't panic the kids. It only took 9 minutes to finish the reading. What could he have accomplished in 9 minutes anyway?
As for airlifting the Bin Laden family members out of the U.S., we will never know what would have happened had he not permitted it. Would they have become scapegoats? Why leave them open to attacks by angry Americans? The best information any of us had at the time was that they felt shame about Osama's behavior.
In any event, I saw and enjoyed "Fahrenheit 9/11." I don't necessarily
buy all of Michael Moore's points. I felt he was very effective in expressing empathy for the relatives of servicemen who have died in the Iraq War. Someone needed to make the war personal. Moore did it. I thank him for it, but I could just as easily have felt some compassion for George Bush from watching the film. We have had lots of Presidents who felt overwhelmed and inadequate while in the White House. Bush has probably felt the same way. Truman went so far as to compare the White House to a prison.
The presidency is the most Godawful job anyone could have. Why doi so many people want it anyway?
Sorry about the topic drift.

Actually the F-9/11 is only now part of the topic. That's why I suggested reading back a page or two. I didn't see it to be honest and while I don't particularly care for Bush I do agree with you that he handled the public side of it well. The private side I don't know about.
To be honest I'd like to see a few more levelheaded republicans discussing it. The only republican seems to be the person who is doing a poor job of representing his party to the thread.
While I'm not pro-Bush in this election I'd like to see that side better represented in the discussion.
I did find one very good resource when researching claims made in that thread. It's factcheck.org. Fascinating site - they are nonpartisan, nonprofit and don't accept donations or advertising. They take political ads and media hype and research it properly to give the real story behind it.

I actually don't dislike George Bush at all. He always seemed to be a figurehead who was drafted by the party, and who somehow managed to not become a monster while in office. He keeps his cool pretty well. That is a very good trait. I highly recommend it.
Imagine what it must have been like growing up in a family where Grandpa was a U.S. Senator, and Dad had his heart set on becoming President. Imagine having your mother say, after meeting your future wife for the first time, that she would make a good First Lady. Yes, that's what Barbara Bush said about Laura. Do you think George W. Bush ever had a realistic option to *not* go into politics?
So, he's in the White House now, and he's made decisions that can't be unmade, and the only real question is where do we go from here?
So, where *do* we go from here? If Iraq falls apart six months after we pull our troops out, do we go back in? If we leave our troops in, will the American public grow alarmed as the suicide bombings go on and on and on? If we end up needing to send more troops in, but young men (and women) are not enlisting in great enough numbers, will the draft be brought back? My generation remembers the draft. The current generation of 18-year-olds does not. What will their reaction be?

All very good and intelligent responses, Paulie. I agree that GW has been maneuvered into a great deal and that he probably had little choice in the matter.
Anyway - on to funner subjects! Save that talk for the other thread...

I notice you've decided to run for Prez, Pan... That ought to get things cooking in that overly irate thread.. not to mention the fact that you're a sure thing since you've shagged most of the electoral college..
Key: Complain about this post
