Thanks DZ!
I'll let you in on a little secret.
I wanted to say something 'passive' in these days of conflict, something about how there are 'bigger' things in the universe than our current world concerns. I made a freudian slip when typing 'arm' and it came out 'army'. Must be something in the air I guess.
Anyway, after I saw the typo I figgered I might as well leave it and see if the moderators would get upset. They seem to be reacting negatively to any mention of anything about the military. You're the first to say anything, so I'm relieved it was complimentary.
Yes, that little song and dance number is probably my favourite bit from the movie. Normally, I might not pay much attention to an old soft-shoe number, but in the context of the whole movie it was about the gentlest and most normal moment. A refreshing break from the general whackiness. It certainly puts things in perspective.

That's one of our favorite songs.
We once stole the tune for an answering machine song.

It is certainly a delightful little bon-bon. It has an infectious sense of hope, or at least a care-free attitude to the enormity of the Cosmos, that I find quite appealing.

That's a great one
My favorite part was during the war (yeah...war...wonder if they're going to yikes this) And they were giving these absurd gifts to their commander--a grandfather clock, a cake, (someone forgot the plates...tee hee)
But Holy Grail was SOO much better!!

For its elegant simplicity, I think the 'Unexploded Scotsman Squad' was probably the funniest skit I've ever seen. Of course I always see these things from a writer/director/producers' point of view.
But what minimalism. Three actors in a field, one camera angle (low) two British Bomb Disposal Squad uniforms and a kilted Scotsman on his back going 'tick - tick - tick - tick - tock'. All a director need do is yell, "Roll camera, now let's be silly, and ...Action!" The rest as they is histrionic.
