Good call jwf!
I agree with your sentiment... it does detract a bit from an otherwise stimulating and fun forum...
Ive read with interest many of your comments
See you in the soup!

The 5 corners of the universe
~ jwf ~ scribblo ergo sum Posted Apr 14, 2002
It was just a stream of consciousness absurdism (in the improbability driven DNA manner) to lighten the mood of my teasing rant ..but now you mention it, the Pentagon is the center of Universe ain't it?
Oh ..and while I have your attention here, in the relative privacy of this thread at my page, may I say how impressed I've been by many of your postings ..in so many threads. You are obviously in the pitch-and-twitch phase of h2g2 addiction. No doubt you are losing sleep and very emotionally invested.
Hang in and don't burn out. We've seen some spectacular meteor showers around here. Bright stars that stay online 20 hours a day for a month or two then fizzle when they run out of ideas, Real Life catches up with them or the feedback they require/desire is not forthcoming.
There is nothing you can do about any of all that. But, please don't take offense that I suggest long walks, deep breaths, rest and exercise. And try to think about something else occasionally. Less will eventually be more.
I am only now regaining control of my life after 16 months of total h2g2 immersion. Never thought I had so much to say on so many subjects and, being well known and predictable now, I suspect many people just skip my postings these days.

Hi ~jwf~
Thanks for the thoughts... One of the things I really appreciate about this place is that a good many of the people aren't needlessly *polite* ie afraid to share their opinions and ideas. I really do welcome any such feedback.
You have noticed the flurry of activity then? Me too
However, it will subside and soon.
I've been house bound for the last 3 weeks with a minor injury which has all but healed and hootoo has been an ideal distraction. I can well relate to the meteor metaphor, its been like an upper with no apparent adverse side-effects... until reality hits home...
Im looking forward to getting out and about again very soon so I'll be weaning myself off gradually, although I suspect that Im *hooked* and will continue to be a regular (if not so intense) *user*...
Cheers

Speaking of forthrighteousness, now that I realise your 'house binding minor injury' is the reason for your 'productivity', I am reminded that your homepage demonstrates a relatively savvy knowledge of h2g2 workins and I have to ask if six7s is your first identity or a re-incarnation. Please note I have not been impolite enuff to ask 'who' you was, when ..just 'if'.

Hi again!
This is definitle my 1st incaranation as an h2g2'er so thanks for the compliment re savvy
Its actually my 1st thing like this ever, Ive looked ata couple of communities for my studies but they are all rather dull and boring, whereas here, for me, the *UK* sense of humour mixed in with an obviously common appreciation of DNA (and all that that entails) is the glue that binds
I have done a tiny bit of work in html, C and VB so guideML for me has been yet another fun diversion...
My tutors hammered home the concept of subtasking, ie don't reinvent the wheel, so most of my homepage has been cut and pasted and then Ive tweaked (read fiddled with) one line at a time, trying to find the limits of the language.

nb selfrighteous could be an apt middle name for me!!

By the way, feel free to ramble into any agggag thread - we are all addicts, with little or no hidden agendae, who appreciate a bit of witty banter in the manner of the Founder.

Hi John!
As you might have guessed already, I called by your space today... and I couldn't do that without saying hello
Hope all's swell

*still enjoying hootoo as much [if not more] than ever*
PS I noticed in one conversation you said you couldn't do a £ symbol... well, if you are running Windows...
go to Control Panel \ Keyboard Properties \ Language \ Add
and scroll down to English (British)
Set one of the options under *Switch Languages*
eg Left Alt + Shift
And tick the *Enable indicator on taskbar* thingy as well, then you get an *En* down by your clock that you can access with your mouse

Hey ~j~
I know you say that your name isn't an anagram, but any collection of words *can be* ...
Reading that W stands for William and of your involvement with things cinematic, the following came to mind as somehow apt...
It could be a line for John Wayne playing a box office attendant
WHOA INJUN, FILM TOLL!
Happy new year pilgrim!

Ho-ho-ho! Very good.
That clever discovery deserves space on my homepage and I will make the addition as soon as I feel equal to the task of commending your efforts in an appropriate way.

Having said that of course I gagged myself from a long series of cliches and hackneyed expressions of appreciation for your brilliance and homage to your genius. A total ellipse of my mind!
But before I lost the thought and possibly this thread in the backlog of unreal life I had to make some mention and set the basis of it onto my page.
Yes it is more about me than you now. That's not what I had planned. But it's my page after all, and at least it's there and when I find myself waxing truly eloquent I will give your generous considerations the tribute they deserve.

Hey where've you been?
Haven't seen you around.
Or have you been posting from down under as someone else?
Yes, I saw Star's unsubscription notice. Of course I immediately thought to object or to speak to her directly on her homepage but she's a big girl. And I wanted to see what other reaction there might be.
It's true that there seem to be a lot more disruptive people and a lot more useless nonsense going on around here. Oh yes, there were always threads that got taken over by trouble makers and they usually got an earful from the faithful, and a boot from the Italics.
We've lost a lot of the old guard over the past five years. Your name would have been near the top of any list of my favourite old researchers who had gone missing. Glad to see you're still browsing.
I guess some people just get tired of fighting the same old fight in thread after thread. Me, I just carry on with my foolishness and in the case of the Brit Eng thread I just carry on. Tazmanian devils be damned!

Hi there!
I've been quite busy over the last few months and although I've only managed the occasional post here and there - always under this identity - I have lurked in my favourite threads and shock! horror! I think I'm up-to-date with Brit-Eng, which is sadly going to the dogs - or is that the cats? That bloody woman is simply too much! I know, I know, nostalgia ain't what it used to be etc etc but, but, but... words fail me
"... trouble makers ... usually got an earful from the faithful, and a boot from the Italics."
Oh how I wish this would happen, and soon!
I'm glad to see that you're still a regular I read a while back that you were losing your home connection and would have to resort to a public library 25,000 miles across the tundra - or somewhere equally inaccessible - but I failed to notice any discernible drop in your activity here
You are obviously committed... or should be
By the way, if the z in 'Tazmanian' is a joke the its gone over my head... and until I learn more I shall continue to use an 's'
Cheers Ears!
and peace to you too

>> ..if the z in 'Tazmanian' is a joke then its gone over my head.. <<
Mine too.
For reasons unknown, the good folks at the Warner Brothers cartoon factory long ago decided that the tasmanian devil cartoon character would be called 'TAZ'. I don't recall Bugs or anyone ever addressing him by name but I have seen it spelled TAZ on 'action figures' and posters. There is even an h2g2 researcher who uses that name. Maybe it just looks sexier or more obvious to pronounce than 'Tas' might be...?
I just got used to seeing Taz with a 'Z' so spelling Tasmania with a Z is merely my carelessness. My apologies to Taz and Tasmanians everywhere.

Kia Ora!
Wow, it's been over a year since I last dropped by...
I was a-lurkin on your space, saw the thread about Life and the superb line "Man cannot live by convenience alone", which reminded me of a Larsen cartoon - one you may well have seen before, but what the hey

I have little else to add... Other than 'hello'

Hellos are always welomed and considered sufficent because they are by definition Life affirming. One can then extrapolate that the Universe and Everything else is unfurling as it should.

I could have sworn there was a thread where you and six7s were talking, and I came along late in the peace, but I can't find it now so this will have to do.
Just wanted to comment that you are both wicked and delightful (vis a vis the 'for' post)
