Upon being a muse...
You have to admit, it sounds pretty sweet to be called "Erato (or Erotia), the Muse of Erotic poetry". Of course it is! However, if you want to be a muse (even though technically, there are only nine of us, and even I get my fellow muses mixed up every now and then) you have to have dedication. After all, Rome wasn't built in a day, and neither was Athens. Trust me, I was there... well, at least around back then. Sure, Dad (aka Zeus) can be sort of a philanderer, we're not even sure that we all have the same mother. And don't even get me started on Athena, that whole thing with her popping out of Daddy's head was just ugh! I'd just rather not think about it! I love her like a sister, but she needs to lighten up a bit! She may be the goddess of wisdom, but she needs to get out more often, chase after a young Adonis (of sorts) or even do what our sister Artemis did... She fell in love with some mortal shepherd named Endymion. I admit that he was a cutie, but it was doomed from the start. Sure, it started out great, she visited him as he slept, covered him in silver kisses and gave him some rather sweet dreams. However, when love gets in the way of work (of course, Artemis has her nightly duty of riding her silvery chariot across the sky at night to guide hunters), it can only end in tragedy. When given the option to die instantly or to sleep forever, Endymion chose taking a very long nap in some cave. The "bright" side is that my dear half-sister gets to see him every night as she rides her silvery chariot over that particular mountain. I love a semi-happy ending. After all, it was me who happened to whisper into Edmund Spenser's ear the day he wrote "Endymion". I figured that I ought to give my dear half-sister some sort of solace, since she's a virgin goddess and all that... Well, I figure that I should conclude this, so to all of you who actually payed attention in Latin... Valete!Latest Messages
