Hi
I think that I picked up some where that you were reading Jared Diamond and wondered if this would interest you also

oh I have read it through and thought a bit dull actually
but http://www.edge.org/conversation/why-do-some-societies-make-disastrous-decisions looks more interesting...
and if it not a website you have come across, you might find it interests you

Thanks for that, Peanut - we just listened to it.
What a great guy. Fascinating stories! He's a lot like Konrad Lorenz, the nutty German father of ethology.
Now we know how to intimidate people: imitate a cassowary. That would intimidate me, for sure.

Gosh, he kept his set of guardian angels busy, didn't he. At least he has the grace to learn from the locals. I really wouldn't want to mess with weird magicians like that, I think because there are no large animal predators in New Guinea, he was a lttle too nonchalant about the two-legged malfactors.

I'm glad you both enjoyed it
Perhaps I should have listened not read and it would have come across better to me
I think that I did take umbridge at his attitude to camping under the tree and telling people to keep the noice down because people were talking too loudly at night
His mountain experiences sounded amazing, I am interested in what he has to say with respect to other stuff I have read. His books are on my list, has been for a while Ed the Bonobo was also a big fan

I like it that he's a normal person, and not a saint. I'd probably get grumpy if somebody woke me up, too.
And the bit about the bower bird - talk about admitting your mistakes...

well talking doesn't bother me, I'll sleep through it or find it comforting
also if it was only me bothered I would think it is up to me to suck it up
if a minority of people camping were keeping everyone else awake and being particulary inconsiderate, then I would tell them to keep it down, because i am bossy like that
who would have guessed, eh
snoring on the otherhand, drives me mad, which again is my issue but it can make me cry with frustration and tiredness, and the irritation which can ramp up to a seething resentment I feel, that said snorer is getting a decent kip and I can't is not something I am proud of

I suspect it's a different issue when you're in the middle of the Papuan jungle, but hey - I know what you mean with the snoring.
Also, some people sleep deeply in the early part of the night, others later - this can make them sensitive to noise at different times.
For instance, try - just try - to wake Elektra up for about 3 hours after she goes to sleep. Forget it.
Now, try - just try - to wake me up early in the morning, say about 5-6 am. See what you get. You'd be safer poking a bear.

I suspect it where we are different again, in the Papuan Jungle I'd find the talking all the more comforting,
creaking on the other hand, is something I have to get accustomed to, dead tree or no
*makes mental notes about Dmitri and Eleckra's sleep patterns*
I love between 5 and 6 in the morning

Does that mean you go to bed with the chickens, that is relatively early at night so you can rise and shine at 5 am?

Peanut Posted Jan 12, 2013
I am quite flexiable about sleeping, which is handy
but if I can choose my own, or get into a routine I would go for getting up early, a sleep in the afternoon, 3pm ish get up at 4pm, go to bed 11.30pm ish alarm go off at 4.30am, coffee brewed by 5am

I am looking forward to them
I was quite tempted with the evolution of human sexuality, but that with Vox and your pre- raphaelite ladies, lord knows what would go on in my dreams
I haven't even got Vox and last night I snogged Andy Murray (tennis player), who was sitting and leaning against my washing machine. He went off for a tennis match and I wanted to call him to see how it went (that was my excuse for the phonecall anyway)
I had his phone number but for the life of me couldn't remember his name, I was going through a list of random names to see if any sounded right.
What a hussy eh, kissing a boy and forgetting his name
hmmm, anyway I dropped round some photos you might like

What dreams you have. What an imagination you have. Maybe the tennis player can date the Pre-Raphaelite janes.
And thanks for the pictures! Amazing. I hope they paid that penguin with lots of for being their cameraman.

Hello guys
Just thought that I would let you that Scratchy is recovered
He is jumping back on his windowsill, demanding to go upstairs if Hiccup is upstairs, Hiccup is his favourite person, keeping the teenage kittens in their place, which is definately not on his duvet in front of heater, nor on Hiccup's lap, or when the sun is out, on the chair by the patio doors, catching the sun and keeping a lazy eye on what is going on the garden
