If I had a hammer

Wow. Looks like an expensive doll.
And then there are those creepy ones that look just like real babies...somebody broke a car window, once...dunno if that's the same one...
Oh, thanks for reading that. And for the nice comment about the Inauguration piece.
I just wanted to write something happy for a change.

Well, you succeeded. I did wonder whether the group was on board already, though. Just imagine.
Can I talk you into submitting to the Post more often (instead of lil and me having to trawl through all the AWW to find your pieces)?
If I had a hammer
Dmitri Gheorgheni, Post Editor Posted Feb 7, 2009
Absolutely. Tell you what: I put stuff in the AWW to share, and to get reactions from the Usual Suspects...but not everything that goes in there is UG-worthy, obviously.
Some of it I'm going to take away (as I just did) to send out into the non-hootoo world, because it isn't right for here.
And some of it is just me wanting to have fun.
You guys are welcome to the 'Kalima' story, if you want it. (I can guarantee the UG doesn't need it - for one thing, it's nasty old science fiction, sort of.)
And in future, I'll send you the link here as soon as I know something might be for you folks, is that okay?

Wonderful, thanks a lot.
Oh, and without wanting to derail that AWW thread any further:

No problem.
And 'Never On Sunday'. Melina was the Culture Minister when we lived in Greece.
And I like rebetiki music.

Never on a Sunday? Sorry, you lost me there.
Why did she sing in French (Melina)?
I guess Lale could be your blousy blonde.
If I had a hammer
Dmitri Gheorgheni, Post Editor Posted Feb 7, 2009
I like it, the blowsy blonde.
I don't know why Melina sang in French. But 'Never On Sunday' is the name of the movie and that song - at least, in English.
Because the lady won't do a certain thing on Sunday...

Oh, and just listening to the various version on youtube. I had no idea there were so many. I only ever knew the one I gave you the link to (my parents had the record).

Wow. You live and learn.
I find songs like that all the time - something I never knew before, and everybody says, oh, that old thing?

Happens to me all the time. I guess that's because I had such a sheltered life before I joined hootoo.

Oh, really?
Over Christmas I heard a song that was completely new to me and absolutely blew me away. Only to find that it was Number 1 in the UK before, and Mala said, oh, that old thing...

Controversial, too.

I didn't know that song if that's of any consolation to you.
I guess that's the influence of KB that Mala says it's an old thing.

Aha. Another person to share my discovery. I thought it was a wonderful song.
True, KB probably knows them all.

He's sometimes doing a Friday night Folk Club. Who knows, maybe the link has been up there at some point. (I don't click on *every* link posted. In fact, I seldom do. )
And it is a wonderful song. At the first scene, I thought it was from: Ein Baum wächst in Brooklyn (A tree grows in Brooklyn). I remember watching it at Christmas many years ago (about 35 years. My mum, sis and I sat there and cried.

Ah, I'll have to find that. Sounds like a wonderful idea, a folk club. (Big folk fan, me.)
And I've seen part of that movie. I know what you mean - I read the book many years ago, and thought it was very good.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0038190/ I know I read the book (many years after I watched the film), but it's the film that stuck. Friday Night Folk Club: KB's journals. http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/F1886503?thread=6113109&latest=1 He hasn't done any in a while.
