Film Tip (with Warning): O, Those Canadians
Pierre de la Mer ~ sometimes slightly worried but never panicking ~ Posted Dec 19, 2013
We were both Danes, Norwegians, Swedes, Estonians, Englishmen and Germans at The first Nordic Meet (over a decade ago) and among other things we discussed humour. What is acceptable and what is not? I believe it was the Brit who told us about a parody of a televised cooking show where Hitler was cooking something nice.
- With gas, I asked...
The crowd couldn't help laughing - even the Germans, but they were only laughing halfway, so to speak, being a bit shocked at the same time. One of them burst out: - You could not say something like that on German tv!
Since I grew up in Germany I was of course very aware of this fact.
I believe Monty Python and my Jewish friends are to blame for me being able to make my remark (and 2legs of course)

Hm. I think I get what FS said. Here's one that happened to my dad.
Around 1946, my father started university on the GI Bill - a governmnet grant for veterans of World Wwar II. On the first day, he went to one of his engineering classes.
According to my dad, the professor was an arrogant man, full of himself, and used to having a captive audience of cowed boys (no girls in those days) who laughed at his jokes because he was the boss. When a student gave him a wrong answer, he made fun of him. To his surprise, his jocular remark was met by stony silence.
The professor turned around and looked at his class - really looked at them - for the first time. Instead of nervous 18-year-olds, he saw a room full of battle-hardened veterans. He turned pale, muttered 'class dismissed', and left in a hurry.
My dad said he thought the Class of 1950 was a steep learning curve for engineering educators.

Further on the subject of tasteless TV humour, may I nominate
two shows, one British and one American, for the doubtful title
of Most Offensive and Tasteless TV Show Ever.
US - Tosh.0
UK - Little Britain
Examples of each are likely on the Utoobies but I refuse to look.
