Quite aside from the political aspects of the discussion... this entry could benefit from the use of GuideML. In particular, it needs formatting for the headers, and could probably use some footnotes as well.

Whoami - iD dislikes punctuation

Whoami? - ACE: It is nice to see that this sometimes heated debate ahs calmed to the real roots of what was the intention of the first post - to get a good article out of this. I hope it will stay that way. Good luck with this. I think an entry is necessary, whether or not it's even been started yet is another matter which I couldn't possibly comment about...

Researcher 179194

It is ridiculously hypocritical for a pro-Israeli to suggest that a pro-Palestinian is arguing merely on emotive and not logical grounds. For on what is the Israeli claim to Palestine based but the essentially emotive and illogical claim that, according to their own religious texts, they inhabited it over 2000 years ago. The 'homeland' claim is more likely than any other to encourage people to be sympathetic, as is the resort to religious reasons which as anyone knows are guaranteed to reduce people to the most illogical of arguments, making it all the more ridiculous as Israel is one of the world's foremost theocracies.
Any emotional response to the Palestinians plight comes from the fact that it is, in truth, a tragedy and one of the greatest international travesties of the 20th century. For over 4 million people, comprising 20% of the world's refugee population, to be displaced from their homes for 50 years without any offers of return or compensation, for these peoples homes and farms to be taken over by Israeli settlers, for these people to be living in constant wartime situations, under curfews, their movement restricted, their economy stagnating due to the Israeli government and armies continuous persecution, and for their unarmed children to be shot and killed by armies funded by the worlds most powerful government with high-tech laser guns-these are the facts. Without embellishment, this would evoke an emotional response in most.
It is all the more enraging that this human tragedy is because of an argument grounded in nothing-a religious text
and an inhabitance 2000 years ago. It is as if British people were to invade Sweden, because their ancestors came from there, or perhaps everyone has the right to take over Africa, since, after all, we all lived their just a few million years ago...
It's unsurprising that the Israeli government and academics do not feel the need to justify themselcves further, since they frequently display their attitude that the Arabs are subhuman. Senior members of the cabinet refer to them as 'dogs' or 'rats'; some believe they should be denied the vote, to make their second-class citizenship official.
What I find most astonishing is that this homeland was set up so Jews could feel secure from a repeat of the Holocaust, an undeniably tragic event. But for a people who have suffered so much to turna around and treat another people so horrendously, while basing their behaviour on the reason that 'we have suffered so much', knowing that no-one can reproach them for this, is incredible.

LUCIEN-Scouting the web for the out of the ordinary

You know I started out by saying a ton of nasty things in response to this. But I'm not going to unless you provoke me into doing so.

With that in mind, some friendly advice. Do not start out on this subject by saying how ridiculous this or that is. As hot and bloody as the war over there is so are the debates that have raged over this topic. And unless you plan on refueling fires that have only just recently been put out, I suggest you tone it down a little. Rememeber that there are real people on the other end of this computer you are looking at, and some of them may well be Israelites, and I don't think your terse comments would be well recieved. That is not the purpose of the guide. Restrain yourself to working on the article. Not refueling the fire.

Thanks for that Lucien,

I didn't respond to the previous post because I was asked to cool down, but in order to be able to go on with writing the article, we need to try stop talking in a manner which is offensive to the other side, so I'll ignore the post entirely.

To Researcher 179194:
1. Please pick a name, so we can adress each other easily. we will probably be working on this entry together, and we should be able to address each other by something unnumerical.

2. Please say if you are willing to work on making this entry into a coverage of palestinians, this is the subject. Not the Israeli-Palestinian situation.

I'm sure there will be a paragraph about it and alla help us when we get there, but, for now, let's try concentrate on the content. The current content, and how we should modify and extend it to cover more aspects and to more detail and neutrality.

3. I can see you have all the anger in the world in you, and belive me I have exactly that much in me.
Here we are virtual to each other, so lets try overcome this and leave our enemocity (*is this a real word?*) aside.

To All:
Is there anyone that voulenteers to be the "middleman" and rewrite the entry?
Please try to be:
1. Not Jewish nor Arabic.
2. willing to be in the middle of arguments.
3. without bias or interest on the subject.

Yours,

It's just as well there's another prospective middleman out there. I myself was just now getting the urge to compare Israeli settlers with Anglo-Saxon settlers, and Palestinian refugees with refugees who are not Palestinians. I tend for bias against *both* sides in Israel/Palestine.

A459650 - Palestinians

Post 97

Emily 'Twa Bui' Ultramarine

I would say that of me too. I think this means that both sides are going to hate whoever it is who is the middleman. smiley - erm

Actually I think it is good to be someone who apposes both sides, because both sides are problematic.

So, How will it be?

Before I get nominated, I should point out about myself:

As a descendant of Anglo-Saxon conquerors of England and America, I am morally in no position to critique Hebrew or Arab conquerors of Canaan, a.k.a. Israel, a.k.a. Palestine. As a descendant of Germans who fled Napoleon, I *may* be in a moral position to critique Hebrews or Arabs who are descended from displaced people... but I'm not quite sure what conclusions to draw. All I can say is, someone's doing something wrong there.

I think someone from china is more distant from a british. We had out quarrles with the british that ruled here during the british mandate.

I nominate St. Emily if she is willing.

I she isn't I don't think Administrator-General is a bad choice at all.

I really like both Administrator-General's writings on h2g2 and St. Emily, so I think it is really up to Researcher 179194 to pick.
