The Snark
I couldn't believe the illustrations in a copy of Lewis Caroll's Hunting of the Snark. I was only a kid. I read the poem many times and decided that when I grew up I would become a Snark. It seemed to me at the time that a Snark was a good thing to be, for several reasons.
a) Although it was hunted, it was hunted by a set of complete incompetents who were never likely to catch anything.
b) A Snark could be a Boojum, in which case anything hunting it had better watch out.
c) I've have never liked railway shares.
I still believe that when I grow up I will be a Snark. In preparation for this, I sometimes write under that pseudonym on IT-Director.com. (Which I have not entered here as a URL in case that qualifies as corporate promotion, which is unlawful on this web site). I also write under my real name which is not mentioned here, because here I prefer to be a Snark.
