Which ebook reader should I get?

I seem to be having trouble finding the information I need online, so I'll ask you clever smiley - geek people.

I'm thinking of getting an ebook reader to read academic papers, rather than printing them out. So I want a reader that can handle pdfs, which seems to be almost all of them. It should also be easy to read, which I *think* means I want an electronic paper display.

Finally, I want to be able to scrawl notes in the margins and save them. This is vitally important when reading mathematical texts; just ask Pierre de Fermat.

So, any suggestions?

As little as necessary.

Not that much info, given that readers seem to boast storage for a few thousand books.

That last one wasn't a question, but I could print stuff now, so I'm not that bothered whether I can do it directly from the ereader or not.

Do you have the same brands over there as in the US? I'm stuck trying to decide what to do about e-books for the library. Sometimes even good technology becomes a curse for poor libraries.

I think so, Hyp. Good luck figuring out what to do. I'm sure that if I get one I'll want to use e-borrowing facilities (are they called that?).

An iPad is of course a lot more expensive than a plain ereader, but then it does all the web browsing and computery stuff too. Hmm, turns out it has no USB ports. That's a bit rubbish.

No, it doesn't have USB. You can transfer stuff via your normal computer though.
