Which ebook reader should I get?
Bagpuss Started conversation Apr 29, 2012
I seem to be having trouble finding the information I need online, so I'll ask you clever people.
I'm thinking of getting an ebook reader to read academic papers, rather than printing them out. So I want a reader that can handle pdfs, which seems to be almost all of them. It should also be easy to read, which I *think* means I want an electronic paper display.
Finally, I want to be able to scrawl notes in the margins and save them. This is vitally important when reading mathematical texts; just ask Pierre de Fermat.
So, any suggestions?

how much do you want to pay??
then how much info do you wish to store on the device ??
and then you might want to print stuff (even though you say you don't)

As little as necessary.
Not that much info, given that readers seem to boast storage for a few thousand books.
That last one wasn't a question, but I could print stuff now, so I'm not that bothered whether I can do it directly from the ereader or not.

well i thought it was a question
I myself use an iPad, its about the best all rounder..... tried others and found them wanting
but to writing in the margins of pdf files i found it the only one, but we could ask on here again about that (just don't take my word) i think i'll ask around too

Do you have the same brands over there as in the US? I'm stuck trying to decide what to do about e-books for the library. Sometimes even good technology becomes a curse for poor libraries.

I think so, Hyp. Good luck figuring out what to do. I'm sure that if I get one I'll want to use e-borrowing facilities (are they called that?).
An iPad is of course a lot more expensive than a plain ereader, but then it does all the web browsing and computery stuff too. Hmm, turns out it has no USB ports. That's a bit rubbish.
