Got a idea for an entry a collaborative one...

When gigs go bad...Hmm, I'd say six catagories.
1. Nasty sounds
2. Nutters
3. "Unfortunatly The _ _ _ _'s can't make it tonight"
4. Open mike nights
5. Cleaning out the venue, or "and when I looked up everyone had gone home"
6. General havoc, chaos and civil unrest.
Or combinations

yeah. Sounds scary.
great ideas guys. I was thinking writing the entry more about going to gigs really if that's ok, but if you had a section on what it's like from the other side playing a gig, that'd be great too. Like a kind of live music roundup from the hootoo community.

Eek! I've been avoiding this thread because, for some unknown reason, I'd got it into my head that it was about a sciencey thing.
Anyway, if I have a think about it I remember microphones giving singers a shock, collapsing drum risers (yes, The Ship Inn, Margate, these were both YOU!) and, most worryingly, being chased from a pub at gunpoint.

Hi Kaz. Sorry for nattering about unrelated stuff. I asked earlier about whether the entry was about doing or going but didn't get an answer. Seems like gigs going bad can be either.
I think for the gig experience entry we could catagorise by genre. You could go on forever talking about individual gigs and you get a very different experience going to drum'n'bass, folk, electronica or punk gigs etc. Are we classing DJ nights as gigs?
I can do a live electronica section if you like, hip-hop and d'n'b sections as well. Not particularly strong on anything else.

I just started a gig horror story thread. I want to hear in detail about people being chased out of pubs at gun point.
I'll trade you it for a member of godspeedyoublackemperor punching a hippie girl in the face.

In my case it was gigs I was playing!

Well I hope you enjoyed them.

You should check the other thread for a full run down! I'm not sure 'enjoyed' would be the appropriate term. 'Carried on regardless' and 'bricked it' would be more accurately respectively.

Well you had courage. I'd be way too chicken to perform on stage. Prefer hiding in the background.

There's a bit of trepidation initially but once you get into it it's great. You can't beat bashing out a rock tune just past last orders with a pub full of people jumping up and down in a sweaty, shouty mess.

Sounds like fun. Something a part of me would love to do, but I'd be way too scared.

I don't know you very well so can't comment on your personal ability to cope with stage fright but I know that I would never have dreamed I could get on a stage with an electric guitar and get into it. The nerves vanish amazingly quickly, usually after the first note!
The fear of mucking it up disappears after the first couple of bum notes (so long as you shrug it off) and the atmosphere gets you. Standing there in the midst of a wonderful noise, seeing people getting into it, and thinking 'I'm part of this' is one of the greatest feelings in the world.

I'm sure. Sounds fantastic. I suppose it's just getting started.

I really should get back into it again. Writing smutty songs and recording them on your PC doesn't really cut the mustard.
I really miss gigging.

Kaz Posted Jul 25, 2007
Well, maybe you should get back into gigging then!
aae, I will take you up on your offer to do an electronica, hiphop/drum n bass section as I'm not really very good on that stuff, so any expert knowledge would be welcome!
I think categoring by genre would be a good idea, but I wouldn't go mad on it otherwise the entry could go on forever. maybe to start with, a summary of live music as a whole-like what's the attraction? and then go into specifics perhaps?
what do you think?

just another thing, are you guys happy with the possibility of taking quotes out of this forum and putting them directly into the entry? It's just I thought that your point about getting on stage with an electric gutar was quite a good point, Roy.

There's nothing I say on h2g2 that I would object to being quoted.
With the possible exception of some of the intoxicated rants in my journal.
And some of the smut.
And thinly veiled drug references.
And pretty much any conversation I've had with 2legs.
Hmmm.
Righty, feel free to quote me from this thread!
