After doing usual chores etc and caught up on the news one headline grabbed my attention. It was this one about cyber bullying:-
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-30043084
Now I'm sorry, but why the hell is it a schools responsibility to tackle this issue? Where are the parents and what are they doing to monitor what their kids are doing when online? Why do parents allow pc's, laptops, tablets, phones and games consoles in kids bedrooms? Why aren't they activating parental controls on these devices?
They should be in communal areas of the home to start with. If kids over-ride the controls, as some do apparently, then confiscate the equipment. Don't allow them use of it until they show they're going to be responsible and if caught again, take the stuff away and put a hammer through it. Can't behave? Can't have it. Simple as that.smiley - spacesmiley - shrug
It makes me see red when responsibility for the action of kids is passed from the parent to the school or the state. Its the parents job to bring up their kids in a responsible manner, NOT schools, social workers, the local council or the Government.
Its an issue not helped by business and media alike. All this nonsense of them telling everyone to "find/friend them on FB or Twitter" Why? They have perfectly adequate websites of their own with ability to interact in a responsible manner so why encourage folk to go to places that are frankly un-moderated and open to all the abuse and cr*p that they're now saying schools have a responsibility to deal with? Lets allow our schools to get back to teaching the basics shall we, reading, writing, maths and sciences and let parents start being responsible for their kids other activities.
Right, that's that off me chest. Time for a smiley - spacesmiley - coffeesmiley - spaceHave a good day folks. ttfn.smiley - spacesmiley - towel

I, probably along with many others, have been fascinated by the Philea space probe they landed on that distant comet and by how much technology plays such an important part in our everyday lives. The Mars rover is another spectacular piece of space history and how that has worked so well.
It did get me thinking though, in light of the battery having run out on that comet probe that the weak link as always is battery life. Whether its a mobile phone, laptop or Tablet pc, the one thing guaranteed to make them fail is a flat battery. Battery technology has improved over the years and they do last longer but its still a major issue. They always seem to choose the wrong time to go as well, usually when in middle of a call or writing sumat.smiley - spacesmiley - yikessmiley - space We expect to be able to do more with our portable devices but rarely do we think about how long a battery will last.
My phone battery is part and parcel of the phone, its not a separate item, so I can't have a spare charged battery to hand that I can simply change. The same applies to my tablet pc so once they go flat I need to be near a mains supply in order to plug in the charger and re-charge. It then follows that the charging leads aren't very long so you can't use said equipment while charging at same timesmiley - spacesmiley - facepalm
I daresay there are scientists and boffins working on this and in the future we'll get batteries that last even longer than they do now, after all, we're entering the era of the electric car and battery technology has come along in leaps and bounds for that.smiley - spacesmiley - scientist

I see in the news today that the Children In Need extravaganza raised a massive £32.6m last night. I didn't watch it as such, it goes on way to late for me but I do like it as it aims to help kids from all walks of life and more importantly, just in the UK. That's mot meant in any way to be a selfish observation, its just that there are many charities dealing with international issues so its nice to have at least this one aimed at our own kids.
Now that's the good part of todays little ramble, now for the bad.smiley - spacesmiley - erm
I also saw that Band Aid is reforming to do another charity record aimed at raising money for the Ebola outbreak. The intention is good. What is bad, for me anyway, is the hypocrisy of these so called stars. They've made more money than the average person will ever see in their lives, they have yachts, second, third and even fourth homes all over the globe and yet they have the nerve to say to the general public, dig deep, buy the record, support the cause.
Well here's an idea. How about the stars pay their taxes rather than use tax avoidance schemes, sell a house or two or a yacht or two and then donate that money to the cause. It would still amount to petty cash for them when all said and done. They'd get more respect if they did that instead of relying on their so called stardom to make Joe public cough up all the time.smiley - spacesmiley - steam

Today we've had an environmental cleaning company in to clean shower heads and pipes and also to clean and descale the cold water supply tank. This is done to prevent any sort of water born diseases such as Legionnaires from occurring. The shower head and pipe is done every 3 mths and the main tanks done every 12 mths. They also test the running temperature of both the hot and cold taps in the bathroom and kitchen. These tasks are done to eliminate or to dramatically reduce the chance of, water born issues causing problems to tenants. Makes sense when you think all tenants have some form of underlying medical issues that affect our tolerance for and being able to fight, additional infections from things we take for granted and use every day. The cold and hot water tanks won't be an issue when the new bathrooms are done as they'll be done away with. Small, hot water geysers will supply hot water to sinks and basins and baths are being replaced with showers. They'll still do the shower head/pipe cleaning and temperature test but won't have the lengthy test for the big tanks any more. It can take up to 3, sometimes 4 hours currently to do all tests etc. Some of the header tanks are very difficult to get access to. That'll be reduced to probably less than an hour when the new systems are in. There'll be a saving cost wise too. A win win all round.smiley - spacesmiley - biggrin
The next batch of safety tests will be the usual electrical and appliance checks, I think that's due in the next month or so.
Time now for a nice mug of smiley - spacesmiley - coffeesmiley - space and then fire up the win 10 system and have a go at breakin.... err, I mean testing that.smiley - spacesmiley - whistle

I'm late today. I've been playing with some new coding software that required me to make some changes to the pc's BIOS settings in order to emulate hardware for testing purposes. It was a nerve wracking exercise as playing with BIOS settings can prove disastrous but all's well and all's working fine on both pc's.(mops brow)smiley - spacesmiley - ok
I've been doing some research into diets etc in light of Tuesday's news and I've decided to make some changes to diet but in a measured way. I've come to the conclusion that there are so many varying opinions out there that frankly I'm not going to make drastic and sudden changes, that can be just as bad as a poor diet to start with, slow and steady seems to be the way.
Talking of which, I'm now off to get some tea. Not eating late is another thing I found was supposed to be good for you so before it gets too late I'm orf. Have a good evening folks. ttfn. smiley - spacesmiley - towel
