let me guess: Muddy Waters?

Welcome to H2G2 smiley - smiley

My name's Bistroist and I'm one of the Guide's Assistant Community Editors (ACE's). We're a bunch of volunteers who roam this place trying to be as nice and helpful as possible, and meet and greet as many newcomers as we can.
If there's something you need help with, or just want a few links to some of the cool places in here, I suggest you visit our common homepage.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A214796

I'm not sure if you know this already, but there's a welcoming message to all newcomers over here
http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A5752

Your absolutely right, an "Under Construction"-message is better than nothing, because it enables other researchers such as myself to post messages for you here. You can always add all the droll wit you can think of later on. smiley - smiley

Other questions you'd might like to ask? Try the "ask H2G2" and "How do I..."-forums
http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A148907 and http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A242470

btw. In case you haven't noticed, the "Don't Panic" button in the top menu bar links to an occasionally useful help section.

Don't worry if you don't understand any of this, just stick this in your ear smiley - fish

Just to tack some extra information onto that already provided by my friend, my name's Triv, and I'm a guardian angel here at h2g2. We, along with the Assistant Community Editors, take it upon ourselves to make the new researchers comfortable and to let them know that someone's looking out for them. smiley - smiley If you need anything reply to this message or start a new conversation over at my homepage.

Thanks for the warm welcome and helpful hints. New places are rather awkward until you "find yourself."

Congratulations! You figured out the name. Did the babel fish lend assistance? smiley - fish It's my license plate, and I'm use to folks not being able to translate it ... more about that later in the new and improved (and possibly droll)introduction to come.

You're welcome

Well, you're bound to feel a little awkward* at first, but just go ahead and make yourself heard in the Newcomers Welcome thread, and participate in some of all the other forums in here, and you're going to feel at home in no time. (I hope smiley - smiley)

Any problems, just yell**

*= I know it's way off point, but I just have to tell you how hilariously funny a word "awkward" is. It is. Phew, that made me feel better.
**= Or, if that doesn't provide the desired results, try posting it in this thread or at Triv's or mine or any other ACE or angels userpage.

You're welcome

* I'd be happy to entertain you with other amusing words ... as soon as I think of any, I'll let you know ... contiguously.

** Yelling will probably work. My voice can become extremely piercing and obnoxious when necessary.
