Number Six Posted Jun 14, 2005
Just heard a package on Radio Five Live about Dick Turpin, which started with the opening lyrics of 'Stand and Deliver' by Adam and the Ants.
Fatal. I can't get it out of my head now, and keep wanting to make the crossed arms gesture as I stroll around the office...

That's an earworm I could quite happily have done without
Jeez, I remember that period in... must have been '81 I think, where it seemed like each alternate number 1 was either by Adam and The Ants or Shakin' Stevens Seemed like it would never end

The Root-Beer rag, mainly because there would be no way I could ever play THAT on my piano...

I have Take Five going round and round and round and round and round and have had for days now.
We are using it as the music for the play I am co-directing - its 5 interlinked playlets and I thought it would be good to have Take 5 but 5 versions of it ... We open with dave Brubecks classic version, have a piano version, a string version, a regge version (which is way cool!) and then one by The Specials - and yes that is fab! I am currently looking for a brass band version and then I will be a very happy personage although probably never able to get it out of my head!
The only times I have been able to stop hearing it is when we are using some piano Jazz during one of the plays which is equally infectious - Its from Jacques Loussiers Play Bach - a firm favourite of mine too
Music from the play I really hope does not become an ear work is some very muzaked versions of Smooth Operator!
* taps her feet to Take 5 *

The only way to get Take 5 out of your head is to play another piece in 5/4 time: Mission Impossible, Mars the Bringer of War, Searching by Danny Thomson....

You may have a point
Brubecks Unsquare Dance did give me a few moments relief when the CD rolled on!

But that's in 7/4 time, so if you can stand the idea of that duelling time signatures with Take 5...

The only way to remove *any* earworm is to start singing We Like To Party by the Vengaboys Guaranteed to shift it

That is as may be but I would rather stick with Take 5 - just incase I hum it out loud! Can you imagine the embarasement of humming Venga Boys

Oh don't worry - as soon as We Like to Party shifts the old earworm, it somehow manages to shift itself too
