Well, I'm immune to that one as I've never heard it before.

I pulled off a difficult feat this week. Tomorrow will make it official. I've managed to avoid Chrimbo music at lunch three days straight and tomorrow I'll go to Wong's Chef where they just have a TV. (I'll have my usual, chow mei fun (curried rice vermicelli).)

Damn near every restaurant I normally frequent has been following the trend of playing the ubiquitous chrimbo standards. Even my normal Indian buffet and middle Eastern places. It used to be that if you went to an ethnic restaurant you'd expect to hear ethnic music. But recently most of them have switched to Sunny99FM, a station that normally plays insipid easy listening classic soft pop crap. (Why is easy listening music so damn hard to listen to?)

Speaking of earworms, or as I call it, musicosis...

Once again it is "FebruANY". And the Subway Sandwich commercials are once again driving me mad. Their "FebruANY Five Dollar Foot Long" jingle get's stuck in my head so bad, it'll be May before I dislodge it. smiley - headhurts

Seriously, the other night I woke up about 5 times and each and every time I still had that damn jingle in my brain.

I'm beginning to think I have a problem, because these things seem to bother me much more than anyone else I know.

There are plenty of things like that which bother me too, to the point where I can't bear to listen to them, such as 'Support for NPR is provided by Pyjamagram' and then something about, and I can hardly even bring myself to type it I hate the bloody words so much, 'hoody-footy pyjamas'. I feel dirty now smiley - yuk

Whenever that comes on, and it's all over NPR now because they're promoting them for St Valentines Day (another thing I can't abide) I have to stick my fingers in my ears or make some kind of noise so that I don't hear it. They do it at Christmas too.

I've never had it diagnosed but I swear I have some degree of autism.

At least St. Val's day is over tomorrow. I've got two more weeks of Februany. smiley - laugh

But you may have a point. I've been considering the possibility of some obsessive disorder being behind my susceptibility to getting songs, lyrics and jingles stuck on ever-repeating loop in my head.

Either that or it's just self-awareness. Maybe others just don't pay attention to their inner dialogue's backing soundtrack. Maybe it's one of those things that once you notice it, you can't help but notice it. Like the Invisible Gorilla.

Or FNORDS! smiley - yikes

A version of 'After the Ball Was Over' ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vtwYVvtOIuM#t=1m16s ) that an old uncle of mine used to sing.

After the ball was over, Flossie took out her glass eye,
Put her false teeth in water, hung her wig up to dry.
Stood her false leg in the corner, put her false arm on the wall,
Nothing was left of poor Flossie, after the ball.

There was a bit of "medical" reporting on the ABC Evening News (US) last night. It was a report on a study concerning ear worms (musicosis). The results of the study suggest that a good way to stop an ear worm is mental cogitation. Literally get your mind off of it by distracting it. They suggested solving puzzles or reading novels.

That does me very little good when I wake up to one in the middle of the night. Even less good when I'm at work doing my rather tedious job... like right now. smiley - musicalnotesmiley - headhurtssmiley - musicalnote

Well, it doesn't work.

At least not a simple crossword or at least not on my malfunctioning brain.

At lunch, just before I left, the Dawson's Creek theme song played in the background. It's still playing in my head 30 minutes and one puzzle later.

This weekend I had hiccups and heartburn combined for 10+ hours. I'm not sure which is worse.

Er, it's not a song, and it's not something I can post because it's full of sweary words.

At the beginning of Withnail and I the two of them decide to get out of the flat and go to the pub. While Withnail calls Uncle Monty, Marwood goes to the khazi for a slash. A big Irish bloke calls him a ponce as he walks past because Withnail had thrown up on his boots after drinking lighter fluid and he had to wash them and splash scent on them to get rid of the smell of the puke before they went out.

He's reading the graffiti on the wall, scared out of his wits, and that's what keeps running around my bonce:

"I smiley - bleepsmiley - bleeps. Who smiley - bleeps smiley - bleeps? Maybe he smiley - bleeps smiley - bleeps."
