And while the maximum temperature was 93, recorded at 12.20pm, it dipped to 81 for a couple of hours in early/mid afternoon and didn't get above 85 after that

I'm quite confused by the departure from daily average numbers for yesterday and Friday as recorded by the NWS. The average (low temp plus high temp divided by two) is 85.5. Friday's average was 83.5, and yesterday's was 84, both lows being the same but yesterday's maximum a degree higher. My maths skills aren't great but I'm sure that's correct.

This is turning out to be an odd summer. Yes, we've had several scorchios already but none higher than 102 I think, and we've also had some brutal heat index readings thanks to the humidity, but look at the maximum temperatures and rainfall chances for the coming seven days, third week in July. Very unusual. Nothing like the previous two summers, thankfully.

When Camp Mabry was getting 0.49" of rain (between 15.51 and 16.51) yesterday, I was leaving work not far from Bergstrom. Mere moments after stepping out of the door into a very humid and stuffy atmosphere the outflow boundary arrived with some stiff gusts, a drop in temperature and then some spots of rain. Even though I had my umbrella I thought I was going to get soaked having already seen on the radar what was coming, but no - I didn't have to open it all the way despite the ominous thunder and lightning. By the time I got home, closer to Mabry, there was only light rain. Bergstrom recorded no rain during that hour, and only 0.04" over the next two.

I was writing to a friend in Australia yesterday, talking about this week with its forecast of rain and below average temperatures, and how unusual it is to get this in July, with descriptions of how awful the last two summers were. I have this page bookmarked http://www.kxan.com/weather/weather-blog/austin-is-hitting-100-degrees-more-frequently-heres-when-its-most-common/ for a couple of reasons, one of which is the chart of 100 degree days at Camp Mabry, where I noticed the low number of scorchios for 2021, so I had a look at the summer months for that year on one of the NWS pages that shows the rolling month at Camp Mabry, and blow me down, there was a similar week at the beginning of July that year http://forecast.weather.gov/product.php?site=NWS&issuedby=ATT&product=CF6&format=CI&version=37&glossary=0 (that link will change each month until it disappears altogether a little more than a year from now).

The forecasters have been saying that this week's rain will happen mostly in the afternoon, and it did on Sunday, but yesterday's waited until after I'd gone to bed, and today's looks like it'll arrive later this morning.

We got at least 6 inches of rain this morning in a few hours which, of course, overwhelmed our meager culvert and ditch system and my parents bedroom and bathroom got water again.
