Greetings fellow Researcher. Just thought I would drop by and
welcome you to h2g2. It can be a bit daunting at first as there
is much to see and do on h2g2. But i see you are getting the hang
of it already!
I am an ACE or Assistant Community Editor (all be it a new one)
and it is our job to meet and greet new researchers and try and
help them out, so here are a few links to get you going:
The ACE's (Assistant Comunity Editors) reside here:
http://www.h2g2.com/A214796, any problems just ask us by clicking
on this link and posting a message, or click on my name above and
leave a message at my homepage, or just reply to this
What could be easier?
There is a newcomers page here: http://www.h2g2.com/A5752
Full of good info.
Feel free to browse around and post in any forums you find
interesting.
Also feel free to write an article about anything that interests
you. Use the search facility, just in case someone has already
written it. But don't be disheartened if they have, there is
always room for improvement here. If you see an article that
you feel you could contribute to, write it, then ask an ACE
to have a look at it. If they feel it would add to the existing
entry, then they might suggest you submit it. Of course if you are
not afraid of getting a knockback, submit it anyway. You never know
unless you try
List of Guide Entries that need to be written:

The main thing is to have fun!Oh and have a fish
Also If you click on the HG logo top left of page, it will
take you to the main page, with many a link on it!
See you around,

Thanks, Bab. I'm curious: how long has this forum been in existence? Also, I get the impression that most participants are from Scotland or the UK in general. Is this true? If so, why? How many participants are there?

Welcome to H2G2
A few attempted facts:
According to http://www.h2g2.com/info , at the time I write this, 56571 users have registered.
H2G2 has existed in a little more than a year (launched 28th of April, 1999).
There are, as you've noticed, many brits here. But far from all researchers are British, there are many US citizens, a good part Australians, and during the last couple of months there has been an influx of, particularly, German researchers. But these are only my guesses at the largest nationality groups, I almost think most of the countries in the world are represented.
Hope that was enlightening enough for you,
~Bistro

Hi pete I am one of the angels. If you have any questions ask me and I will help in any way possible.

Hi Bistro... thanks for that; it was just what I was looking for. It seems as though it will be fun once I get the hang of it. Stumbled upon it totally serendipitously. So... where are the hot women?
Hi Pete
Pete Posted Jul 21, 2000
Thanks, Bob, I appreciate it. Once I understand enough of what's going on I will have more intelligent questions (well, the "intelligent" part has no guarantee). For now, I'm just wandering around aimlessly. I learned enough about GuideML to "add some structure" to my homepage, and I've been poking into interesting-seeming nicknames on Who's Online, and dropping a message here and there.

LOL
They are everywhere, you just have to find them! (don't try to guess a persons identity from their nickname, as most of the time, you will probably be wrong! Just for the record, I'm male
Hi Pete
Pete Posted Jul 21, 2000
Heheh... somehow I knew you were male, Babs. Looking at nicks is, for me, one of the interesting things about online life. And you're right: some you can tell, some you can't, and some, like Aendr (for the nth time I'M FEMALE!!!), help ceux qui recherchent des femmes. I bet you know who the hot ones are, don't you, you sly devil!
Hi Pete
Babel17 Posted Aug 1, 2000
I might know which are hot, Pete
But then again I am currently entertaining a bunch of old biddies in a tearoom at the moment. LOL
(see my page for the thread if you want a laugh I think it's called:
A cup of tea and a toasted teacake)

Hello Pete. I stumbled upon your page because of the Omar Khayyam reference. I was mildly amused by the introduction if somewhat disappointed to find only the first line of Fitzgerald's translation of the quatrain. Sadly for you, though I am in the right age group, I am in all otherways unsuitable as a paramour - and I prefer tall slim pale skinned girls anyway. As a distraction from your entirely natural obsession with feminine pulchritude why not visit the Church of the True Weevil?
Hi Pete
Pete Posted Oct 2, 2000
Hi Percy,
Thanks for your kind words , and I'm sorry about the quatrain, but sometimes it works to just leave it hanging, you know...
... nor all your Piety nor Wit
Shall lure it back to cancel half a Line,
Nor all your Tears wash out a Word of it.
And it's good that God made women for you AND me, so there shouldn't be any competition between us. I will check out this Church (if I can find it!).
Thanks again!
