How can I convince my kitchen mates that I'm a serious ethical vegetarian, with convictions, and not a malnourished wimp who's barking up the wrong food chain? They all love eating Duck in particular, and I really like ducks. Alive, obviously. A lot of them are being insensitive about it. Any insights would be appreciated very very much!

Some of my friends were quite stupid when I came out of the carrot-closet as well. I work in a restaurant one person I worked with would always "prank" me by putting meat into my food. Another one freaks out when I *touch* meat. (I have to for my job.) Sigh... I think it's just people trying to punch holes in my boat. Stay strong everyone! Anyone else with a funny veggie story?

When I was younger and at high school, the favourite insult to throw at me was 'veggie'. Why would I be insulted by being called something which means my choice of diet? Oh, how mature and intelligent people were there...!

When I was at the University of Miami (in Florida) I pledged a fraternity which did not have a single vegetarian brother. Needless to say I endured months of jokes and was jokingly told that as part of my pledging process I would be made to eat a steak.
Some people just do not understand....
