You shouted for an angel????
Kes Posted Aug 4, 2000
Any time. It's the least I can do. Come to think of it, there's very little I can do even at best, but I would if I could.
...and hurry up at the F&F. I'm on my last life there, and i don't have nine, unlike Kitty!

Fashion Cat Posted Aug 4, 2000

Kes Posted Aug 4, 2000
Maybe that's what I can do in return for the services of a GA who can also tie bow ties.
Happy to be of service to you. Call any time (seriously).
Time for a drink! Cheers!

Fashion Cat Posted Aug 4, 2000

Kes Posted Aug 4, 2000
A blessing on all tardy bosses!
Sorry to be so cheerful right now, but a piece of news:
My first attempt at an article has been taken up into the realms of the sub-editors, so it may yet see the light of day. (Ref: A407512). 'Cos it's my first, I'm rather chuffed. Don't tell anyone, but it looks like a first effort - could do better ... but here's hoping.
My time's almost up until the small hours of Sundaynight\Monday a.m. (GMT). If I don't see you again - all the best. If things get you down,
a) write it down - pour it out - it helps
b) apply liberal quantities of alcohol internally.
Angel, while you're taking care of me - take good care of yourself

Fashion Cat Posted Aug 4, 2000
I'm so happy about your article! Its great news!
as always sound advice... Ah well, if you come back to see that your page has exploded because of my pourings out, I'm sorry in advance! yup, and I wont forget the alcohol either
have a good weekend you

Returned.
No outpourings (I hope that's good from your view)
Maybe the inpourings provided a balance?
Before I go shooting off on various topics, I'll listen.
Tell me - how are you doing?
You shouted for an angel????

I will. I'll look at the amazing culture of Edinburgh (wild party in Edinburgh, followed by "ed in bucket?)
Then I'll post a few ideas.
Sleep well.

Kes Posted Aug 7, 2000
Just shared a pint with a late friend of yours at the F&F. This world is indeed a passing strange place.
I've surveyed the visual evidence from Edinburgh, and am now wiser (also sadder at not being able to get to such "do"s)
Accordingly, I have placed a packet of Alka-Seltzer and some soluble Vitamin A powder in this posting - you may need them. Help yourself as requried.
While parties and chaos were breaking out all over h2g2, I was peacefully thinking up some good wheezes for Survivors - a bit of conspiracy in the interests of keeping the viewing figures up. But are these ideas still relevant? Sometimes it look as if we're losing Marshalls faster than Survivors (which would, at least, be etymologically logical).
Do you feel up to continuing as a Marshall, or are you planning a period of dignified retreat and mourning?
Not that I'm trying to blackmail you, or anything, but my character is going to end up as a small heap of spat-out shirtbuttons in a couple of days, the way things are going.
P.S. I can do "serious" too, if required.
You shouted for an angel????
Fashion Cat Posted Aug 7, 2000
late friend... now heres to hoping its Zax.... but somehow i doubt it...
right. you need marshalls to come point out the arachnids again do you??? ok i'm coming honest....
oh dear... its not quite the same as i thought it would be though....
You shouted for an angel????
Kes Posted Aug 7, 2000
Actually, I believe it was he - different name, but familiar style.
Ah! You've seen then. Well, spiders come in different forms - the only constant being that the female is always deadlier than the male.
It wasn't what I was expecting originally, but the "tone" was set last week during the storm, and it seems to have a life of its own. (That's my story, and I'm sticking to it)
Thank you for your discreet moonlight and stars. Shall I pick it up and go for broke\baroque? What do you reckon?
You shouted for an angel????
Kes Posted Aug 7, 2000
Forgive me, Angel, for I have sinned. In the absence of guidance, "go for baroque" seemed about right.
When I suggested we conspire to take control of the plot, I was actually thinking about trying to reverse out of the corner ...
Now I know what an unfaithful fish in a large aquarium feels like - very, very visible!
I had this idea ... Oh, I'll post it a bit later. Just put that heavenly rolling pin down and give me about a year in which to work out a convincing explanation.
You shouted for an angel????
Kes Posted Aug 7, 2000
Is it safe to come in?
*Sound of rolling pin whistling through the ether - Whop!*
OK - I deserved that, and the lump will stop my hat falling off.
Here's an idea for directing the island plot (thank you Teatime of the Soul). We could use the I Ching as a "deus ex machina" - a plot device to provide direction. It'll take a bit of work on the details, because we'll have to find judgements that take things where we want 'em to go. I've got a starter script - it doesn't give a new direction - just reinforces the "Kes=wimp, PE has control" theme. Having introduced the device so it fits the existing direction, in future we use it to generate direction.
(If the idea's crap - say so now and ignore the rest of the note - i don't mind - honest. Of course, that means you have to come up with an alternative).
The mechanism? people on the island (probably mainly me) accidentally generate the numeric data for an I Ching judgement. One of the Marshalls (guess who, Angel) delivers the judgement.
Here's one script - read and comment - oh, and put the rolling pin away - it makes me nervous!

-----------------------------
Kes posts:
*K is cutting dry stalks from a small plant - for use as kindling.
The plant is a Yarrow, but K does not know that - it does not seem relevant.
He has cut 50 stalks. As he gathers them, one stalk scratches his hand.
In pulling it away, he lets all the others fall to the ground.*
That's odd - they've fallen in six clumps - a clump of nine, a clump of six,
then nine, nine and nine again, and last a clump of seven.
9, 6, 9, 9, 9, 7 . Just a coincidence, I suppose, but unusual.
*(There is nothing in the stamp album about the interconnectedness of all things
- that's in a different book.)*
--------------------------------------
FC posts:
*This comes from another time and another book - The I Ching - The Book of Changes.
The yarrow stalks are cast. 9, 6, 9, 9, 9, 7. The judgement is:
Hexagram 44. Kou. Coming to meet.
Through resolution there will be an encounter.
The Maiden is powerful.
The weak man comes to meet her.
A melon is sweet, but bruises easily,
Unless protected by the strong.

would I ever lift a rolling pin to you??? a large pointy stick maybe...
i'm not sure about the idea Kes... it has been forwarded to MK, so he can make the 'directors decision'.... it is after all his baby...
now.. would you like me to come split you and Peaceful up?? *eyes light up evilly...* (well, it was as good a graphic as i could get...) btw.. i'm dead wasnt Zax, but another angel who has died until Zax returns to h2g2....
You shouted for an angel????
Kes Posted Aug 7, 2000
The "until" sounded hopeful.
Happy to await the director's decision on plots etc. The thought of developing "plot" rather than just letting it evolve is interesting - it begs the bigger questions: What's the intent of the "show"? and What's the measure of success?
In the meantime, don't split our dewey-eyed duo up just yet. I'll feel free to ask for your crowbar if I feel I need it. Just don't provide more starry, starry nights! I want to see if the characters will react and create some distance naturally. You know - the stand back and think bit - the why am I doing this? phase.
But stand by with a bucket of cold water - just in case.
On a more serious note, because I'm a recent arrival, and not on-line 24 hrs, I'm rather dumb on the Zax background. If you feel up to telling me a bit about it, I might be a bit more useful.

* M.K gets out the big rubber stamp marked with 'approved'... *
I've only taken the task of Marshall so stridently thus far, as to explore the comedic value of real life observations, I thought there was plenty of scope later on to explore the truly bizarre !!!
BTW Take it as rent that things have happened if a marshalls are not on-line, I would rather see plot developments ongoing than trying to stick to the original outline...

Kes Posted Aug 8, 2000
There was an original plot line?
Did I hear right?
MK's actually right in his timing - there ought still to be scope for "realistic" activities, but a bit of Biz. never hurt anyone.
Over to you for timing. When you feel like a burst of I Ching, send me a message outside the island, and I'll post the first part ....
Oh - and good morning FC. At last I checked out your new home page - great.
Oh - and i beat you in the postings listings for the first time today. Yah!
