Arkansawyer
Hello . Welcome to my space. Let me introduce myself...
I am from the state of Arkansas, in the United States of America. As is true in many large countries, across America there are 'dialects'... and of course, Americanized English is somewhat different from English English, anyways. The 'proper' name for a resident of Arkansas is 'Arkansan' but for those of us whose roots come from the countryside of Arkansas (my family settled there in the 1850's), many of us prefer Arkansawyer (because - Arkansas is pronounced Ar-kan-saw - not Ar-Kan-sas). I added the 'geekahilbility' to my name because... I AM part hillbilly, but have a lot of geek ability, as well.
Arkansas is a southern state, so there are a lot of 'country folks' - sometimes referred to by outsiders as 'hicks', 'hillbillies', or even just 'rednecks'. I grew up in a small town in the middle of a National Forest (Ouachita Nat'l Forest), where the nearest 'city' (of perhaps 35,000 people) containing Wal Mart, McDonald's, etc., was about 35 miles away.
My experiences as a youth taught me a lot about love of family and home.. and nature. The saying that "You can take a boy out of the country, but you cannot take the country out of a boy" fits me well. I now live in the dreaded 'big northeast' of the US., where the whole country is one big city...... well, okay... my home now is surrounded by corn fields and the Appalachian Trail follows the mountain along the edge of the valley where our house is located, in the beautiful countryside outside of Halifax, Pennsylvania.
My job brought me here, but someday I shall return to my roots... I have been 'away' for almost exactly 15 years, as of this writing, although I return home at least once a year, oftentimes more.
