Aha... at present I am attempting to highlight the necrophiliac themes present within the poetry of Keats. I mean look at Isabella; lover gets stabbed to death in forest, girlfriend gets vision of corpse, girlfriend digs up corpse, hacks its head off and keeps it in a flower pot.
I reckon he was a voyeur too. Just read stanza 26 of "The Eve of St. Agnes"...

Ok, getting ever so slightly scared now...
Also, you're making my dissertation look like a walk in the park...

What dissertation would this be? The longest piece I've had to write so far was my English coursework - 4644 words, to be exact. It nearly killed me - I got five hours' sleep in three days...

My SYS (sixth year study) dissertation. Our system is different up here, so I do Highers (which get me into uni) and SYSs (plus extra Highers) which seal the deal, so to speak.
It's about 5000 words all told, but knowing me I'll write more It's on Shakespeare's portrayal of the female character in "Anthony and Cleopatra", "The Taming of the Shrew" and "Twelfth Night", in case you wondered. I'm something of a major Shakespeare fan

Oooh, so am I; although predictably enough I like the tragedies best. "King Lear" is a personal favourite at the moment. Incidentally, I'm going to see "Twelfth Night" at the Birmingham Rep on Wednesday - I'll put something down about that. I'd really like to see "Hamlet" which is running simultaneously, but have failed so far...
My coursework was on Dystopias; fantastic. Lots of sex and violence. Then more sex. Then more violence...

I must admit, I love the tragedies too. Although, probably only in equal measure with the comedies
Fun fact to know and tell: I live right on the doorstep of the setting for Macbeth. I could get to Birnam in a very short amount of time It was wonderful to study the play knowing that the setting was right next to me- very atmospheric
Lucky- we have a production of Hamlet going on near here, and I can't get away to see it. It sounded interesting too- set in modern times... Some of my favourite memories are going to the RST to watch some of the plays- I've spent a lot of time in Stratford in the past, and the parental units decided it was to good a thing to pass up. To date, I've seen "A Midsummer Night's Dream" (which was such a good production, we went to see it again when it came to Edinburgh), "Twelfth Night", "Romeo and Juliet" and "As You Like It". So, comedies running on three to one currently. Although that's because we're doubtful my thirteen year old sister (who does, BTW, love Shakespeare), would be able to sit through one of the tragedies... They can be pretty tough going...

Hey, Emily, I'm glad you mentioned 'The Eve of St Agnes', long one of my faves of the Romantics. There's all sorts of suggestive stuff in there:
"Beyond a mortal man impassioned far
At these voluptuous accents he arose,
Ethereal, flushed, and like a throbbing star
Seen mid the sapphire heaven's deep repose;
Into her dream he melted...."
Ooo-er, I think we'd all agree

It's official: my application number is 01-003545-6...
Manchester sent me an acknowledgement slip today too, which I thought was very nice of them.
Oh bugger...

No offence actually intended by that last remark - it was a 'Red Dwarf' quote...
Sorry, Germanic peoples.

Back to proper topic - I've had two offers so far... hooray! They're from Manchester and York - both AAB. Oh well.
Jim (Lord of Fishnets) got CCC from Bristol... jammy jammy...

Nice one Emily
I'm still waiting for UCAS to tell me they've got my application...
I'm hoping it'll come through this week. My damned idiot school took so long messing around with our applications, most of us are still waiting. Oh well, hopefully it won't take to long after that...

Oooh... mine only went in early because of Oxford; most of my friends' confirmations are coming through now. Good luck!
Plus when you get it you can have a go with the funky online applications thing, where you can check what's going on with your choices. I think it's fun, but then I have no life.

Yeah, a friend got hers through last week and she was telling me about it. Can't wait to try that one out...
Can't decide whether it's fun or scary though...

Fun fun fun. With the postal situation at the moment you find out decisions about a week quicker than you would otherwise. Well, it did with me; still haven't actually had the letter for Manchester yet.

Have you heard anything yet, Tweetie?
It's just over a week until the English interviews at Oxford, and have I heard anything? NO. I don't know if I'm coming or going... quite literally.
Incidentally, I'm starting a Personal Statement page - would anyone let me put their statements up? I thought it might be useful for those who come after us...
