That could lead to co-ordinated action which would be far too effective! Hence the divide-and-conquer tactics of this (and previous) government's dealings with unions.

I just finished reading that post about 10 seconds ago, and was just onto WanderingAlbatross's 'Informed Aside'.

As you're probably aware, at HMRC we have a different dispute but for similar reasons: there is a need for change but it's too much, too soon, and the official side refuses to budge.

This postal strike is goina cost me... I'll have to buy in extra bin bags for the mountain of junk mail that will eventually turn up in one big batch Actually I did somethign daft last night... was looking through EBay at CDs and then sudenly realised how pointless it'd be to buy anything on there at the moment Can I join you on the strike?

1) I'd agree with a large part of it if I agreed with your interpretation of the motivation behind the current and threatened action, but I do think you misunderstand the reasons for current and threatened action.

2) To post something like that and immediately unsub is impolite and beneath you.

Well the Postal Strike has certainly been met with a wall of apathy. I guess posties are finding out just how essential the public reckons them to be. In the days when you had the same postie every day for years and he came to be almost a part of the community, I think strike action would have garnered more support. But nowadays, with posties shuffled regularly between routes there isn't the same familiarity.

Plus - what are the modern uniforms all about then eh, eh? Bloomin shorts and baseball caps Bring back the grey uniforms with the peaked caps and the polished boots How can I be expected to support a shambles of a group that look more like football hooligans than postmen?

The Post Office will never be forgiven in my book for doing away with the telegram boys with their Sam Browne belts, Red Devil bikes and the breathless excitement they brought.
