how long does it usually take twixt recomending and officialising?

The subeditor usually receives a batch of four entries and has four weeks time to return them. After that, it's up to the in-house team to schedule it for the front page. So, the average time is around 6 weeks, but there are quite a few extreme cases to either side of that.

Well, quite a few SubEds are much faster and return an entry as soon as they've finished polishing it (rather than waiting until they've finished the last one of their batch). In many of the cases, the time spent in Peer Review is longer than anything else.

Bossel is right in most cases. Of course, the longer the Entry and the less time the Sub has spare, the longer it's likely to take. Still, it's pretty quick considering we don't get paid!
