smiley - kisssmiley - kiss Moved! Sorted! Boxes unpacked, although brain still in storage. haha. Internet just connected.

New house is amazing, we are very happy, really sweet neighbours and all is well. Phew. We love our new life.

So strange having our own stairs, and not being in a flat. We've never lived in a house. How come the lady who used to live downstairs isn't living downstairs any more? haha. Good not having to whisper all the time, so's not to disturb the lady downstairs.

Been so busy, haven't hardly had time to write or dream, eeeeek, but synths and electric piano all unpacked now and yesterday I sat at the piano and told it everything in tumbled mumbled poetry, and it answered me in chords of old gold.

Hullo darlin' smiley - kiss

I love your owl family! smiley - love The six owlets sound like they are very content and happy.

Those live web cams are really good. I remember there was one here in Exeter a few years ago. Some peregrine falcons had built a nest high up on St Michael's church. You could watch it from the museum.

Thankyou for my petunias. smiley - petunias. smiley - kiss I shall put them on the windowsill in the sun and wait for the kettle to boil, so we can slurp some Perculiar.

My brother was here yesterday and he brought us two tomato plants, a cucumber plant and a courgette plant. Us?? With plants?? We don't know the difference between a leaf and a psychic telephone. In fact just the other day I tried to call my late mother from a leaf. What?? smiley - rofl.

What is a psychic telephone?? I ask myself. smiley - rofl

We have a little yard out the back with a patch of grass and a patch of earth, so we put the plants in the earth and watered them. I don't think they'll get far, but it was a lovely ritual, and I speak to them often. The tomato plant said it might return as a cactus one day and haunt me with desert poetry. I'd like that.

I think I'll buy a stripy deck chair and sit and watch the grass grow, whilst drinking Perculiar smiley - tea and juggling my precarious thoughts and failed intentions. That sounds more like my version of gardening. smiley - rofl.

I had a dream last night that I filled the entire yard with stone angel statues, they were amazing. I wish I could carve those statues. Imagine if I woke tomorrow and they were all there!

smiley - redwine

Flattered I am, re qotd. I thought quotd had retired, resting in the shade of leafy quote trees. I'm onto leaves again. I'm still quite tired. In fact I think I'm halfway to Mars. smiley - mars

Amazing moon tonight! smiley - fullmoon

Today I recorded some synth loops. First loop is entitled 'today we have plants'. Puffle bells and a jazzy drum.

Glad the move went well and you're settling in nicely. smiley - smiley

I have some plants, too: a courgette, various tomato plants (my mum grew them from seeds), a hokaido smiley - pumpkin and a paprika.

Fortunately, I don't need to fear that slugs will eat them all up.

Hah! Hullo Bel smiley - kisssmiley - kiss Yes, slugs. I want to bring the plants into my bedroom. But I'm not allowed. I could play synth loops to them. smiley - rofl. The earth can get a bit sluggy.

What's a hokaido?

Tip for flower pot gardening, sections cut from a copper mesh kitchen scouring pad tucked into drainage holes in flower pots prevent infiltration by garden slugs and other pests without obstructing drainage.

Morning daydreamers

So you have your very own garden to look after as well. smiley - wow As you like butterflies if you have room left I would recommend a buddlia bush (not a tree), easy going to look after, pretty and butterflies.

Thanks for the tip about the slugs smiley - cheers

Afternoon, Peanut. smiley - smiley

ITIWBS' tip may work to keep slugs from the roots, but the one time I tried to grow squash in my garden, the slugs ate the leaves. The poor plant never got a chance to grow.

Hi Bel smiley - biggrin

Slugs like squash leaves smiley - sadface I rather hoped they wouldn't find them particularly tasty

So I think I am going to grow these types of plant indoors and on the patio for as long as possible and also sow sacrificial lettuce crop outdoors for when I do put them out and hope they stand a chance.

our beans and peas didn't get have a chance at growing either, on the other hand a little flower patch is growing quite nicely and the tomatoes are going great

Maybe you can import a hedgehog from somewhere? That should reduce the slugs. smiley - biggrin

Peanut,I also heard that slugs are suckers for in shallow plates or bowls. That seems to be a cheap sustainable pest control option.

I have visiting hedgehogs, they do though seem to prefer, worms, snail and beetles over slug, can't blame them for that, they are very welcome smiley - love

thank you for the smiley - goodluck

ITIWBS

I do most of my gardening in flower pots to control pest problems, often set on paving stones or plastic mulch or old shipping pallets to prevent root infiltration into the ground.

There are copper tape products that can be wrapped around the outside of the pot to keep slugs from climbing the sides.

Unfortunately cannot have hedgehogs in California, though the are frog and toad varieties in some regions that can help.

A 16 liter pot is ideal for tomato plants, egg plants and adequate also for cucumbers and melons and cabbage family plants, one plant per pot.

Helps to train vining plants on a support cone to keep them off the ground.

A five liter pot is adequate for peas and beans or okra or chili peppers.

An onion does well in an ~ 6 inch/20cm pot.

I usually grow my onions from the heel of the onion, the bottom half inch/cm with the roots, planted as soon as convenient.

That way, one gets full sized onions first season, while it takes two growing seasons from seed.

Root vegetables and herbs can usually be bunched in varying numbers in medium and larger pots.

All that and a hand cart to move the plants around with on account of changing conditions of sun and weather.

Hey Elektra smiley - hugwe are ok at the moment and will keep any smiley - ale to ourselves for now

I think the slugs have the bigger problem, they scoffed a food supply before it got legs, there would have been so many leafy bits now if they hadn't just left stalks, yeah think on that slugs smiley - winkeye
