Wouldn't I almost rather wonder? If I wonder long enough, I'll probably post it to 'Ask h2g2' anyway, 'cause the curiosity will get the better of me (good thing I'm not a cat...)

I've taught a few Hoppers in my time. It may not be that unusual a name. Can you narrow it down to a particular region of England?

I was taught by someone called Hopper...

I guess I could ask... All I know is that, supposedly, all the Hoppers in the US are related, because it was two brothers that started us... I have no idea how many generations ago, their names, or what region of England... Another good reason for not taking it to 'Ask h2g2', huh?

Are you related to Rear-Admiral Grace Hopper?

Haven't the slightest... Pretty bad, huh? I used to be able to spout out exactly how I'm related to Dennis Hopper, but then I found out here that his real last name is Hooper, so I don't know if it's true... (Wait a minute... Considering how often people used to think *my* last name was Hooper...) Anyone interested?

Being related to Grace Hopper would be cool. She invented COBOL.

But I am certain that, on my moms's side, I'm 5th cousin to Jesse James... And so I'm related to many of the outlaws of the American west in the late 1800s...
