A Word about the Esipretne
Mrgrunt (With the Beard of Power!) Started conversation May 30, 2000
Hello p500e. Um, I don't want to sound like a party pooper or anything like that, but I believe that a few pointers are required for everybody to be happy aboard the Esipretne.
1) Please, PLEASE try to read the backlog before you plan on making new posts. This way, we can have efficient plot movement, without symlposting (contradicting a previous post)
2) Try not to be too many characters at once. Fine, if you want to be two, but try not to be an entire ship.
3) Try not to be another character, but if this is unavoidable, try to keep speech down to a minimum. Or at least try to sound like the character the way the original creator wants them.
4)Try to type in the present tense.
In my opinion, I think you should just drop the rest of the crew you've taken on in your persona, and become Captain McFailane or whatever he's called. Just a suggestion, but a lot of people have been voicing concern over the other ship, believing it to be a hostile takeover...
Just a suggestion, as Captain Al Boy says, 'Play nice' That way, things can stay cool and froody...

I couldnt care less, i YOU'D read previous posts you would have realised that i had realised that i was doing it wrong and spoiling your little game, i apologised and have not interfered with YOUR story for a week.
You would also realise that i am trying to tie MY mistake off as soon as possible, like i said, "some people are confusing irreverence with rubbish".
Remember its not YOUR web its OUR web and in a supposingly irreverent story as the usse story (with you all trying desperatly to be funny and little mini mr adamses) you would be thankfull for any creative input and the oppertunity to fly off at a tangent.
However as is always with these things the people who get here first revert to primary school age and go running to "mum" if they dont like something,
Oh well................................

Sorry...but I'm siding with Mrgrunt on this one...
Calling it an "irrelevant" thread is *not* very nice of you...that forum has been going on for months & I'll lay a bet you've not read one jot of the backlog...
...and as for trying to sort everything out...I really wouldn't bother...you just seem to make things worse...especially when you ignored Mrgrunts post which was *above* your posts OK...

Not usuaully one to take side, but in this case, I feel a strong tie to my friends and have chosen to..oh enough of this polite democratic stuff. I'd watch your lip..and what really annoys me is the fact that I welcomed you here...
And that's all I have to say about that...

I must disagree with Eomando on this one. He said "ireverrence" not "irelevance."

Having been with the Esirpretne for not a long period of time now, but long enough - I will side with MrGrunt
If you (p500e) can't accept a little constructive critisism then you needn't spoil it for the rest of us with your obsenities and endless reems of pointless drab relating to, seemingly, nothing...

I'm ashamed to even be hearing this. Not just what p500e is saying, but the fact that what is essentially a pleasant diversion has degenerated into a series of hissy fits and ego clashes.
Everyone, stop taking 'sides'. Just voice your opinions if you want, but for crying out loud, if someone has been offended (as p500e understandably was, what with YK having told everyone to "ignore" him) then the best route is to discuss things reasonably, as Mrgrunt tried to do.
And p500e, if you have a problem with YK or any other participant in the forum, the expected method of resolving that is to actually speak to them, whether in email or on their page. What is NOT appreciated is when you come onto a privately owned site (as h2g2 is, owned by TDV), flaunt the rules (on profanity) and render a forum (which I created on my own page and then set up as its own page) unsuitable for younger readers by posting a childish response such as "F--- the lot of you."
Creative input is one thing, but it would be appreciated, if people don't continue or employ your ideas, if you would try to take this in your stride. An example: When the Esirpretne story changed from my page to its own page, I basically yanked the story out from underneath everyone and sent it in an entirely unsuccessful direction. It was an unbelievably stupid thing to do, and I was a jerk to do it. However, as I found out then, if you give these people some time and leeway, they really do try to involve everyone's contributions, as far as possible (with one or two exceptions, who will be addressed in a moment).
The main thing I have had to do in the last three or so weeks with the USSE material is settle disputes and remind everyone to play nice and try to get along. If you think YOU'VE not been having fun, try to imagine how a thread's patron feels when he sees this sort of thing going on.
I'm not taking 'sides' here, as I believe both views make some valid points - it was wrong of YK to advise everyone else to ignore you. But I will say this - Mrgrunt, in an extremely decorous move, came over here to point out in a polite fashion some small points of advice which could be of assistance to you. The reply you gave was nothing short of rude, from disparaging references to a "little game", accusing the others of "trying desperately to be funny" and "confusing irreverance with rubbish" (a highly subjective viewpoint, and perhaps collaborative fiction is not the best outlet for you if you hold this opinion about others' work whilst simultaneously being unable to take constructive criticism of the variety Mrgrunt offered). These people do take the opportunity to fly off at a tangent, but nobody likes being forced off at a tangent.
A word to some of the others - I set up this story to try to involve people in a friendly atmosphere. First canadiangirl, now p500e have left because of unfriendly overtones in the thread. Replies to the posts here and the profanities in the current thread are one thing, but unprovoked insults and dismissals are quite another, unacceptable thing. If you can't play nice within the confines of the thread, then don't do it. Take it to their page or to email - I don't care. But I'm frankly sick of seeing it in the USSE threads, and I'm not going to take it any more.
Right, I've had just about enough of this.
Dizzy H. Muffin Posted Jun 2, 2000
I agree.
p500e, I apologise.
