Gordon has ordered his mother a woollen coffin. Intrigued, I looked them up and they're beautiful, and biodegradable (not that that matters in this case as she's being cremated).

I want a biodegradeable one too even though I will be cremated. Not sure about wool though, the bottom might sag it usually does.

I have the day off Jury Duty tomorrow. That's probably the best part about this week.

I am really missing Gordon, I haven't seen him since Sunday morning, he's been so busy with making the arrangements and doing the paperwork, running round and phone constantly going.

I expect he'll collapse in a big heap next week!

He will be okay. As will you.

Even though it's the way of the world and a not-unexpected death, still the family dynamic has changed and I am going to miss her. She told some good stories about her youth and working life and the war. I also know some things about Gordon's childhood which I'm saving to delight him with on another occasion.

Glad you got a bit of history from her before she went. So much is lost forever when people leave us. We don't listen or ask questions nearly enough.

My two year old granddaughter has just lost her second Grandad, in both cases before she got to know them, and in the second case before my family got to know him

Expected or not it is still a shock. I still haven't got used to the 'here today and gone tomorrow' of it all.

My grandad (Dad's dad) had died before I was even born, and my mother's father died the year after I was born, I was 14 months of age and don't remember him, but I have a lovely photo taken on my 1st birthday - I'm on his knee and eating icecream, he's looking at me and holding me tightly but not too tight under my arms. Mum said he wanted a granddaughter for so long...within 2 years after he went, he had another two, my cousin Fiona and my sister Yvonne. I feel so sad that he wasn't spared just a few more years to see all the girls come along (Yvonne was the last granddaughter). At least he met me, eh.

The day went quite well, although it never stopped raining. I said that just myself this week, Webby. I've not taken in the change yet, and Gordon is still on auto-pilot, doing a headless chicken act all this week and still doing the Homes visits which I was unable to attend (they missed me, apparently)

Take care GB, you have a lot going on. I have just two memories of my Grandads. One bouncing me on his leg to the Galloping Major, and the other with a pipe in his mouth and sloppy wet kisses I was tiny too when they went. One of the penalties of late families in all my cases. Regards to Gordon, it will get easier, eventually.

One day at a time is my motto.
