Galaxy Babe - eclectic editor Started conversation May 17, 2008
Don't tell anyone but my daughter is having a surprise party for her recent 30th birthday tonight at a pub in Cleethorpes, she thinks her hubby's taking her out
My son Allan & Jenny are fetching HFH and her b/f Lee here then we're all piling across to raid Tescos then back here to prepare sandwiches, nibbles, etc.
Andrew's very excited, as am I.
So excited I just had to share, and yes, paily, I'll remember to take the camera tonight
Full report probably tomorrow, whatever time I'll surface...
Don't miss me too much
*waves*

Hi honey, I'm home
you don't wanna *know* what my bungalow looks like, and that housew*rk missed me out again!
I can't stand going to bed and leaving all those pots to wash so I've run some hot soapy water and letting them soak while I log in here and wish everyone goodnight
Mum & I toasted absent friends with our first drink and I have some excellent photos for pailaway and any other interested parties.
But for now, the rubber gloves are beckoning me then my head is gonna hit the pillow and I'll tell all in the morning

Great party!
Were there no incidents of helium-induced hilarity? (if only it would affect one's face the same as one's voice)
It's goodnight for me, but now I can sleep.

Goodnight paily, glad you enjoyed the pics
The only helium hilarity was the little children untying the balloons from the back of the chairs and letting them float to the ceiling
Um, well my Sunday's all planned in the absence of the housew*rk (slacker) but that can wait until I've restocked my energy with brekkie and

Well I expect you're all gagging for a blow-by-blow report so here it is:
Allan & Jenny (in their car) were bringing Helen & new b/f Lee over from Manchester, and they went straight to Tescos to buy the food & decorations while I sat here twiddling my fingers & thumbs thinking *where are they?*
Then the moment they arrived all hell broke loose, frozen prawnsand frozen pastry cases for vol-o-vents (expects that spelling to be corrected by the first person who reads but I'm too lazy to look it up at the moment) so I had to engage my usual trick of defrosting a bag of frozen food slowly (sit on it) (NOT!)
The two girls got changed in my bedroom while the blokes got stuck into and Andrew organised entertainment while I boiled a dozen eggs and buttered break and cooked pizzas and then Helen & Jenny cut up cheese and spiked them with cocktail sticks
They loaded their car with the food and forgot the helium canister so I took that and Andrew and went to collect Mum. We arrived at the pub 5 minutes before Karl was due to be "picking up a birthday card from Tom (Allan's best friend, a new dad)" which was the reason he'd given Laura for calling in the pub on their "way to Sheffield to meet Allan and go watch dog-racing" OK that was the plan and she (apparently) fell for it.
Note: I parked my car sideways on at the back of the car park, so my numberplate wasn't displayed (thinking out the box, there).
We got the tables organised with food and balloons strung from chairs, etc., then Karl rang Allan to say they were on their way.
SURPRISE!
Laura had been persuaded to come in the pub by saying come meet Tom's new baby, or something, and she looked like she'd been shot she was so shocked, she really hadn't got a clue, although Karl her hubby told me afterward that as he drove in the carpark he spotted my car so turned to the left, and she never saw it. Liam got out the back and pointed and said to his Dad, "Look, there's grandma's car" so Karl said "no it's not" and Liam said "well it's got the same things dangling from the mirror"
Note to self: "when trying to disguise my car, remove defining decorative objects"
Apparently Laura looked round, but didn't twig.
To say she was stunned, shocked and surprised is an understatement...she made us all laugh when making a speech, she said to Karl, "aren't we going to Sheffield then?" She told my Mum that she couldn't get over how many lies had been told (and she'd swallowed) in the past few weeks. well, I didn't actually tell any lies, but her workmates and hubby and brother Allan did! She was delighted with the news that Jenny is expecting (they told me first, but I kept Mum) and my ex-husband shook me rigid during the evening when he came over and spoke (this is a man who crosses the street to avoid me) pointed down the room and said "I wonder how long it will be before we see that?" I looked in the direction he was pointing and there was Allan holding 12-week-old Kaitlin, his best friend Tom's baby
My sister couldn't attent, she was gutted, far away in Ireland on holiday I know she was thinking of us. We toasted absent friends and loved ones
But she sent her daughter Lauren (that's her hugging my HFH) and Lauren's Dad Mark, who I've not seen since Dad's funeral well when Gaye arrived (Allan's godmother) Mark said something about a "blast from the past" (us three, Mark, Gaye and I all worked at the Jubilee Inn *cough* years ago, I introduced Mark to Yvonne and got a fantastic brother-in-law out of the transaction) so Mark offered to buy us a drink, and when he came back, proffered her the bottle with an empty half-pint glass (she had been supping a pint) and she squawked "I can get more than that in my mouth" well I and Mum laughed and Mark looked like he didn't know how to answer that so he put down my drink then slapped Gaye's husband Adrian on the shoulder and said "You're a lucky man" and we howled.
We left about 11 and I drove Mum home and saw her into her house safely. I was just putting the car away when I looked up at the moon and there to my left caught sight of a shooting star *waves to Dad*
Oh my look, that kettle's gone cold
