Just got an invite from a couple of friends to go to theirs on New Years. And I suspect that that'll be better than Christmas was as they're a fair bit less likely to start a drinking competition and start smoking like chimneys.
I also just found out that I will work during this weekend. So the tradition continues. sixth christmas/new years in a row that I've been working.
Oh well...

I'm alone as well in a sense, I'm trapped on the wrong side of the world away from Roo, its not fair I've been completely alone the last 3 years at home and depressed as can be, and the year I finally find someone that I want to be alone with on New Year's eve, I'm carted off to NZ

Having a sprog kinda hampers our chances of getting out & finding someone to lose our celibacy with, doesn't it?
That sounds awful and I'm ashamed of myself.

A couple of days away from my 8-month anniversary and I just *might* have the end in sight
Anyway, can I ask you for some help please?
I really don't know what to do next.
There's this young man whom I'd swear is interested in me, he works in my local newsagents. He takes his time serving me, always makes idle chat, asking me questions, etc. I've noticed when I've been browsing in the shop that he doesn't do it with ~other~ customers
He's been really good all year, cashing coupons for me, even when I didn't get the newspaper concernedso I decided to be really bold & chose him a Christmas card, which, I thought was pretty damned suggestive.
It showed a couple kissing under the mistletoe and there was a badge attached with mistletoe at the top, and underneath it said "Ask me - I might"
Well I went in every day up till Christmas Eve but he wasn't there, and as I wasn't going to hand it over to any of the other assistants, I was going to give up, but I thought yesterday morning "one last try" so I nipped for my paper & he was there. After he served me I handed him his card & apologized for it being late, as I'd not seen him all the previous week.
He thanked me & I left & later there was a knock on my door & I almost died of shock to see him stood there with a big smile and a red envelope in his hand. I asked him in but he said sorry, he had to go but he brought me a card. I said thanks, then he turned to go so I asked him for a for Christmas! He came forward and hugged me & as he pulled away we both went to kiss each other & our lips met.
I *know* from past bitter experience that if a man is just being polite & a woman goes to kiss him, he will offer his cheek.
It's just one of those body language things.
Anyway, after he left I tore open the envelope with relish and it was a "Happy New Year" bubblegum card, the sort my daughter buys me and inside he'd written "To Annie & family, All the Best for the New Year - Gav" and inside the card was a scratchcard.
So, you can imagine - it's took months to get him to my door, and it was a late Xmas card that did it. What happens now? Do I offer him my phone number? Wait for him to ask me out? Get all dressed up to go buy my paper?
Please help!

If I was in your position I would go to the newsagents first thing in the morning and ask him out. Get in there quick before someone else does.
*Crosses fingers in anticipation*

Hmmmmm all the ladies are telling me to let him ask me out.
All the lads who have responded so far have said "Play it "
I like you Croz.
I like your style.
I'll ask him round for a new years drink.
Where's the harm in that?
Thank you for wishing for me hon.
Much appreciated.

AGB, who were these guys who told you to play it cool? As it looks, all the guys in this particular forum feels you should go for it.
If that's a coincidence or just the fact that we want someone in this forum to get some, I don't know....

He wasn't working this morning
So I took my son to Tescos & there was practically nothing on the shelves.
Anybody would think we are going to have a siege!
I bought a bottle of sparkling wine to toast myself and absent friends tonight though.
All the best, guys & gals.
Lemme see, who told me to play it
Bassman, Plastic Squirrel, Justin and *all* the girls.
Oh well, he *might* pop round on his own - without an invite.

"Don't worry Galaxy Babe, I agree, go for it! There's a good old saying, "The Lord helps those who help themselves". I'm off to the coast Thursday for meetings Friday, so my New Years lay is some 50 hours away, I'm pleased to say!"

"I have a right to feel smug. Had a Happy New Year telephone call from Dee Dee this morning and will be meeting her in the Greenpeace bar at 18:00 on Thursday evening. This lady is a special treat. So smug it is! Want to start 2002 the way I intend to go on."

Well, the year is a day and 8 hours old, and I'm still officially here. And I have to say that there isn't much prospects of me resigning from this thread in the near future. Possibly because I'm never the one to "help myself to what's on offer", so to speak.
Oh well. Happy New Year to everyone and I hope you all have a great year this year. After all, considering what happened last year, even a marginally good year will be seen as an improvement from last year.
and
to everyone.
