It wouldn't matter to me to be honest, although Christmas is a good excuse for a knees up with the rest of the family.

and I will have my son home for three weeks!
We are having a family party on the Saturday before Christmas, as it's my parents Diamond wedding anniversary.
All the kids will be going too, so I don't have to worry about a sitter, there'll be a meal and a disco.
Can't wait

I wonder whether my folks will understand that I'll only be home for a couple of days this Christmas.
The time I spend at home this Christmas is inversely proportional to my performance in the January exams a few days after New Years

The thing that'll be keeping me going will be the Rupert Birthday Meetup just after the exams when I get to see everyone again

GB, it's not the actual working that mackes me smile for the X-mas shifts. It's the money I get for working those shifts that make me smile. And I can't say that I'm much for celebrating any big holidays, as it's when people get together with their families and loved ones, which once again reminds me of my hopelessly single status.*sigh* By keeping myself occupied, at least part of the day, I can somewhat shut it out.
Denial by excessive working.
Glasgow meet-up on Saturday.

I'm working over Christmas too. But some friends have kindly invited me to 'the orphans christmas dinner' which isn't technically for orphans, just a gathering of people in the area without family or lovers nearby to snuggle with.
Ho-ho-hopeless. I'm going away to the countryside for new year tho. To hang out with couples.
Before I turn into Bridget Jones, I'll add that for one reason or another I turned down 2 offers of sex this week. Goddamn these morals and standards. Next bloke on the street who looks half decent and says 'hello darlin, d'you wanna come to my flat for some sex' has a higher chance of success with that line than usual.
'Well, do you wanna have some casual sex then?' actually got me into bed once.

Sometimes it would help if people were THAT honest.
Or maybe it would save a lot of wasted time if someone came straight out and said "Look, I like you as a friend but there ain't no way you're ever gonna exchange bodily fluids with me" - at least then you know where you stand.
Yes, I am speaking from experience.
Well I said earlier in this thread that I am happy being single.
I would rather be single than be miserable with the wrong one, is what I meant to say.
I get one night off a month, as those who know me already know.
I try to plan this night out with military precision.
Since I've been single {and my last boyfriend would not have sex with me for the reasons outlined above} this time, I have planned to go to bingo with my older daughter.
The last two months it's worked.
This month however...she can't make it.
So, this Friday, I have an empty house, I can go where I want, and I will be sat watching the tv as I am too gutless to walk into a pub alone - too self-conscious - too shy to speak to someone - why aren't there "singles pubs"? Why isn't there an "Orphan's Christmas" around here? I'm not an orphan, I have a big family but they are all couples.
AGB *almost* tearing hair out

GB You could always come up to our mini-meet in Glasgow on friday night.
I can so totally relate to the "too self-conscious" bit about going to a bar or a pub. The fact that they burned down the only pub I felt comfortable going to on a friday night if I was feeling restless, doesn't really help the matter.
For some reason, the theme song to 'Cheers' just poped into my head..
'Sometimes you wanna go, where everybody knows your name. And they're always glad you came.'
*sigh* Oh well... I'll just shoot the hell out of people on saturday at the LaserQuest. That'll probably help.

Ummm.. Maybe a bit of clarification.. It didn't come out as it should have, what I said about the pub. I do feel comfortable going to other pubs as well, it's just that to that specific pub, there would always be someone you know, and if there wasn't, the karaoke machine would always be there..
