Ours are just finishing a week off now..they seem to have more holidays than term time! I'd swear we didn't get so many holidays!
My little ones just done his SAT's too.. I'm not sure I see the point of tests for 7 year olds..they just seem to be puting more pressure on them younger n younger..

Really? Where abouts are you Hati? Here they start the september after they turn 5..but have probably already been at nursery by then. I can see the benefits of both starting ages really..

I am in Estonia.
The can (not must) go to kindergarten here before they go to school, usually from 3 years. The last year in the kindergarten they have somewhat preschooling, also they can go to preschool (usually once a week) at a school. But there is no 'must' in it.
Few years ago they tried to start at the age of 6 but they failed. People were angry with it and also they were not able to change the system.

Do you find it's better for the children to start later then? I know some other countries do that too and have heard good things about it..

I prefer to keep children out of the system as long as possible. Children are supposed to play and be happy, not to meet some standards and to sit in the classroom.

True.. theres also the argument that they learn more being at home n just looking at the world asking you questions than at school that young..

I can't really spend much time with them after they started to go to school. Just few hours in the evening filled with homework and dinner and going to . And weekends - housew*rk.

I have a voluntary placement starting tomorrow until September. Sure it's not paid work but at least it's something that gets me out of the house and I can always continue with looking for something decent whilst doing this.

It's been arranged partly by the job centre. It pays having a near nervous breakdown in front of your new deal officer.

While I do not believe in fate or destiny or any of that, here's some spooky conicidences:
1. A book that was on RF's Amazon wish-list happened to be in my loo. (Not such an amazing co-incidence really, as it was a book by Douglas Adams, and we met on here. But interesting...)
2. The last 4 digits of his phone number are exactly the same as the last 4 digits of my best friend's number. I get very confused half-way through dialling and go "Who was I calling again?"
Now the mathemetician in me wants to work out the probability of that!

As kids we always thought it a little strange that my best friend n I were both born on the 24th of the month and that we got close through my gran who lived at number 24! You'll find coincidences everywhere if you look for them..and i 'do' believe in fate n stuff

For those of you who remember Beanfoto, I thought you might like to know I got an email from him recently. He's alive and well (and in love) in China - but unable to access the BBC after SSO
