Virgo & Leo Minor
Galaxy Babe - eclectic editor Posted May 11, 2008
Virgo is now in PR if you have a few minutes. Shagbark has also submitted Leo Minor, that makes #50 constellations done!

Hi GB
I just got back from a few days away. On a quick read through Virgo looks pretty good. I'll give it a closer look as soon as I've had a chance.

Your Virgo connie looks pretty good. I especially like the extra information you seem to be including, eg the Messier objects, which are very interesting.
Just a couple of nitpicks:
>Virgo straddles the ecliptic making it one of the 13 constellations which is also a member of the Zodiac<
This isn’t wrong, but it does appear to imply that there are 13 constellations in the zodiac. I think it needs a slight rewording to clarify it .Frinstance:
‘Virgo is one of the 13 constellations that straddle the ecliptic, and is one of the 12 of those that make up the ancient zodiac‘.
I think that the New General Catalogue para / Markarian para / NGC table para, need reordering. I think preferably the table should go straight after the NGC first para and then it won’t need a header.
>The size of the extrasolar planet is compared to the mass of Jupiter our Solar System’s planet, known by astronomers as the 'Jovian scale'.<
To be a bit pedantic, the Jovian scale is a measure of the planet’s mass and doesn’t necessarily relate to the ’size’ (diameter) of the planet. I think that you need to rephrase that so that size and mass are not compared in the same sentence.
You could also check the E/S table column ‘Planet size-Jovian scale’. I think that might have to be amended to ‘Planet mass-Jovian scale’.

Pavo
As ever it looks pretty good. I like this one. For a small constellation it contains a wealth of information.
For your Paraphernalia section:
The last Shah of Iran, who was displaced by the Ayatollah Khomeini, in 1979 sat on the ‘Peacock Throne‘.
I had just finished writing this below when I found that you’d beaten me to it. That’ll teach me to read all the way before starting to comment.
One for your modern section:
An old-fashioned trick question
If my peacock laid its eggs in my neighbour’s garden, who would be the owner of the eggs?

That's better than my joke.

Yes I saw the conversation.
I nearly broke my own cardinal rule not to comment on such matters, along with religion and politics. But I refrained from the urge because I feel that it only feeds the fire and does no real good. This thread will probably die like the others without resolving anything.
Personally I’m sick to death of these same conversations that rear their heads every year or so. It’s simply an exercise in contemplating your navel. It wouldn’t be so bad if anything ever came of it, but of course it doesn’t. All it invariably serves to do is to upset some researchers and have others withdraw from writing entries. If the same amount of effort was expended on writing entries as on these sort of conversations there wouldn’t be any real problems with h2.
Those calling for change and/or leadership really ought to show the way by practical example. If they want h2 to go the way of more reviews of coffee bars, pubs what have you, there is no reason at all why they shouldn’t show us the way. What their call for change seems to miss, is that people can only write in the way that ‘they’ can. I do what I can do, you do what ’you’ can do. I doubt that I could write anything on a subject that I have no real interest in.
I have to say that the researcher who set this train of thought off (in the other conversation on the change in guidelines) didn’t list the constellation entries among his no-no s. In fact he’s on record as having bought a telescope recently. I’d like to think that you may have another convert or returnee there. Incidentally, can we also put the blame for Gnomon’s purchase of a telescope at your door? You may well be influencing more people than you realise.
At the end of the day h2 needs entries. I feel that the lack of entries will be the only thing that brings h2 down as it shows lack of interest in the project. I put a point of view here:
F8737899?thread=5455147 but not surprisingly there hasn’t been any further comment.

added thanks.
Dunno if you're in tonight but at 8pm on C4 is a programme I wish I was home to watch - In the Shadow of the Moon - apparently all the men who've been on moon missions gather for a chin-wag
I'll be at my brother's birthday party, but I'll expect a full report. (I'll be watching it myself tomorrow if my video player records it properly)

Yes **** it. I was away on Sat and Sunday. I had meant to record it but forgot about it completely. I guess I'll just have to wait for the repeat. They did promise some new stuff on the subject, which would have beem good, but I'd take a small bet that I've got most of it somewhere. You should see the books and films I've accumulated on it.
Thanks for the heads-up anyway, and also for the great subbing job on Volks. It's always good to be a FP author.
Have you sent your name to the moon BTW?

Galaxy Babe - eclectic editor Posted Jun 3, 2008
Of course I have! Did it as I read the page, so I didn't forget.
BTW Gnomon tells me he's done a star chart for Auriga, it's sitting on his computer waiting for the article to be written
I'm almost ready to submit Phoenix, but I'll wait until Pavo is picked.
Auriga
Deek Posted Jun 3, 2008
I've mostly done Auriga, Some of it is here A36564483 I should have it submitted by the weekend. I'm just putting together the ES planets and Meteor showers.
My thanks to Gnomon for the chart. that'll be great!

I just need an opening quote and I think that's ready for PR, although it can wait until Pavo has been recommended.
I'll have a read through Auriga tomorrow, as I'm just going to collect my son from his club and then I'm off to bed, I'm tired, I've been working on Phoenix all day
Night night Deke
