*In this long room are placed hundreds and hundreds of maps, each in miniscule detail, all fakes drawn for the purpose of scout training, all reals maps for real missions. There are also several bunks, each with an equally detailed map of the surrounding area drawn on, depending how high they are, the underside of the next person up's bunk or the ceiling.*

If Supermoo joins the scouts sometime soon maybe he'll actually get to review this place. He gets the armoured highest bunk. *climbs into a wooden, medium hardness bunk on the lowest level and gets a crossbow ready*

*A couple of Helen walks in and surveys the maps. After a few minutes the one on the left points to one of the maps*

[Helens in perfect unision] There a road here silly. This maps out of date.

Personally I like historical maps...I see nothing wrong with these maps if you are taking them in context...that's why that map is mounted on the wall and not in a protective tube...

[Helen] Oh I see, so this is the up to date one
*The other helen looks over the recent one*
[Helen] Why keep something old? Whats the point in a map that doesn't show where things are any more. Anthea said no time travelling! I hope your not planning something naughty.

not only do the ornate drawings on them look nice, but the older map somethimes show old paths that have fallen out of use...very useful paths when you are looking for a back door into an area...

No time travelling will be done. Promise. *pulls out another crossbow with quick-load mechanism from the secret weapon pouches that are in every bed and puts his thumb on the safety catch* Sah! Request permission to set booby-traps for intruders, sah!

No...I've never been planing time travel...waste of my time...either way...permission granted...just make sure to inform the Guild mistress of they're where abouts...we don't want any accedents...

*sets up the booby traps... crossbows activated by raisable tripwires set up at secret locations, hidden portcullis in the doorframe that is released by pressure on the east side of the frame, pitfall unlocked if you step on the wrong plank just outside, and spiked disks hidden in the roof, each disk activated by a trigger, one of which is in each bed*

ingenious...just one question...how do you turn it on and off?
The on/off device is often the downfall of such systems...ignoring the obvious "accidents"...

It's a load of strong strings strung.

[Helen] If there are forgotten paths on the older maps, why not just mark them on the new maps. Then you'd have more space for games.

But we'd have to refer to older maps ANYWAY so it's simpler just drawing a few more familiar details of the surrounding countryside onto old maps. Besides, nothing's changed THAT much, has it?

either way, the old maps aren't usually used in the field as the newer maps have them sketched on...the older map just look nice...and they don't have some of the newer roads on them, making it easier to see the unused paths...

I've got a map of "Your Village" if anyone's interested?
