We have about half a meter snow. And it's snowing. Time to hibernate, methinks. I have been eating for it already.

not really. i had to walk over to p's (hati and hapi know). the roads were not fit for cycling
he was hospitalized today as he is in a very poor shape. so i walked over there again today to do some dishes and check out if there was anything else i could do. there was, of course, as hati can imagine...

he had polio has a newborn during the last epidemic in 1951 and only barely survived it
after years of different treatments he was able to live an almost normal life, but a handful of years ago he had to take early retirement because the 'substitute nerves' he built up during the treatments are giving up on him now
his drinking makes it worse, but on the other side it is the only painkiller that w*rks for him, plus it is his only pleasure in life (besides smoking, he hardly eats anything) so there
he must now face the fact that he is no good to neither others nor himself. he must accept help from others with nearly everything and he absolutely hates that after having struggled for himself and others for decades (he used to be a very skilled caretaker of a bunch of adult 'rainmen' who can't do anything whatsoever)
it doesn't help that he was tortured by a father who was deeply traumatized as a german soldier in WWII and wanted to 'harden' his sickly son to the facts of life
oh well, i hope he gets better enough to sit on the porch in a wheelchair and somehow enjoy what is left of his life
