I remember seeing more than one film at a time at the cinema. sometimes as many as 3 or 4!
I remember "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" being a double bill with "The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie" What audience were they looking for there?

I remember when Christmas cake was made in the New Year and kept in an airtight tin with an apple. The apple would wrinkle but never rot, as we'd see every month or so when the tin was opened to add a dash of whisky* to the cake.

*rum or cognac would seem more logical but my memory says whisky

I remember:

We kept the old radio going for a long time by switching out the burnt out tube, until the store stopped selling tubes because the company stopped making them.

Returning soda bottles to the store, as a young child. As a somewhat older child, picking up aluminum cans on the way home from school, and redeeming them by the pound.

Saving dried crusts of bread to feed to the ducks at the park.

Huge long lines for gasoline.

Mohammed Ali winning the title back in the Fight of the Century against Joe Frazier.

The moon shots, which were very . Except for Apollo 13, of course, that one was a real nail-biter.

And now for some very recent memories:
Saving the beer bottles and refilling them with home-brew. (regularly)
Composting the vegetable scraps. (regularly)
Eating fresh raspberries from the garden on my cereal. (last week)

I remember when........this thread sounds a bit like that one called Memory Lane, which ran on here for a long time.
It did come back on a couple of occasions when someone found it and posted on it.

It was a popular thread and at the time it was running I knew a lot more people in here,..... Ah! the good old days

I never came across that thread.

I was suddently thonking about the thrill s of growing up, and I suddenly realised that one of my big thrills was wearing a pair of silk stockings and how soft and super they felt.!

That is how that thread started.

I just remember ice-cream cones...

And K. and I still go into the local Italian Gelato place and I buy a medium cone of coffee ice cream - my favourite, and K. wheels me off and we slurp them licking them whilst gazing at the incrediblly fascinating sea, sometimes shiny and still, sometimes wavy and shot with colour - always interesting.

I love your ice cream memories! The one time I had gelato was when I was on the Ponte Vecchio in Florence. I wanted to be able to say I had had gelato, but I was still trying to observe the dietary restrictions I have been on for decades. I compromised by asking for frozen yogurt.

I could probably safely have a spoonful of real gelato, but you can't buy such a small serving at a gelato stand!
