Bassman - Funny how people never ceases to amaze me! Posted Apr 10, 2001
I bought Highway to Hell by AC/DC the other week on CD having seen a tribute band a few days before. I'd forgotten just how many great songs there are on that album.
To save me posting a song a day for the next three days, I will say:
Tuesday - Touch too much
Wednesday - Beating around the bush
Thursday - Night prowler

Bassman, i like your songs, and i fully agree to everything you said about AC/DC. They're simply great, i've got a ticket for an open-air in June, hehe
My songs for easter:
'little black egg' by the Primitives
'born again' by the Christians
'Jesus' by the lovely Velvet Underground
Have some nice days

Had a great Easter thanks. Saw an absolutely awesome band on Sunday night - Limehouse Lizzy, probably the worlds greatest Thin Lizzy tribute band. I was chatting with the guys after the show, as one of the crowd that I was with had known the singer/bass player for some years. It turns out that one of the guitarists lived in my home town for a few years, and was taught how to play dancing in the moonlight by one of the guys that used to belong to my scout troop!! Small world.
So today my song for the day must be Lizzy oriented, I think I'll go for:
Waiting For An Alibi

Never really been into the Who, which is odd seeing as they've got such a phenomenal Bass player in John Entwhistle.
My song for the day has now got to be "Won't get fooled again".
I remember vividly the first time I heard it, I was working for Falmer Jeans, in a warehouse in my home town. I'd got into work a little early, gone right the way to the far end of the building for some reason. I was walking up one of the aisles when I could hear this keyboard. As I got closer to the source of the sound, the music just exploded into the scream and a thrashing of drums that was Won't get fooled again. I was stunned, I was hooked.....

Bassman, and you're telling us that you've never been too much into the Who
have to leave bloody Germany (and my PC) for a couple of days - off to Greece therefore my song for these days shall be 'over the hills and far away' by Led Zeppelin from the fantastic 'houses of teh holy' album
btw, who was it doing a song with the same'over the hills...' title. All i can remember is that it was a former Thin Lizzy member, either Phil Lynnot (spelled correctly??) or Gary Moore ?
You all, have some nice days out there

My friend has just - two minutes ago - phoned from outside another pub where Limehouse Lizzy are playing, she can't get in because it's sold out. No doubt she'll go in and chat to the band after the show.
"Over The Hills And Far Away" was a Gary Moore song from the album "Wild Frontier" I think. That'll be one "N" and two "T"'s in Lynott. Sorry to be a pedant, but he's the one who really got me interestend in playing Bass. I remember the first Christmas I had a guitar way back in 1980 I learned virtually the whole of "Live and Dangerous" over the two weeks I had off.
I suppose I ought to think of a song for today.......
I think it'll be a new song that the band is just about to embark on - "Weak" by Skunk Anansie.

A friend of mine was saying that she had a Tarantula at work, I thought she meant a large spider. I spoke to her today and it turns out the thing was spotted eating a mouse in the car park - it really is a tropical monster. I asked at the time if it was called Boris - after the Who song. That got me thinking ......
Today's song is "My Generation" a classic if ever there was one. Great Bass solo, not of course that I'm biassed in any way!! I believe that John Entwhistle was breaking strings faster than he could buy them round about the time they recorded that. He was saved by Rotosound.

My song for the day is a little delicate number from Skunk Anansie called Hedonism.
The main theme of the lyric is something that someone said to me recently. I don't want to have to agree with her sentiments, but I can't get the song out of my head.

i've seen Skunk Anansie once life in Munich but unfortunately the acoustic conditions were that awful, you almost did not recognise the songs.
got caught on the Athens Airport due to a general strike in Greece last Thursday. Lots of people in this new building, everybody wants to get anyplace else but is obliged to stay...
the amazing thing was that after a short time the people calmed down and relaxed, the mood was all right and most of us had a very "easy" night on the airport.
Nevertheless, standing in the queue for a check-in the next day, i was thinking for a song of that day... what do you think?

Before this thread dies out, I have decided it's time for summer music.
What were your summer hits over the years?
When I left school my utter utter favourite was "Maggie Mae" by Rod Stewart. We played it at all the parties that summer.
Summer also comes to mind when I hear the Beach Boys, of course, and a very old one called "Sputnik" by an instrumental band called "Telstar" - or was it the other way round, the band called the Sputniks and the song called Telstar? One girl at school had got a record player for her birthday and she brought it to school and played it in the playground.
Otherwise, my embarrassing summer hit is "In the summer time" by Mungo Jerry.
I wish I could think of some more that remind me of the beach and nights out in the open and sitting round camp fires.
One favourite is "Sympathy for the Devil" - great to sing - there's parts for the girls and parts for the boys.
*wanders off into the distance, reminiscing and going "doo doo, doo doo"*
So buy lots of batteries and bring your ghetto blasters and we'll hear all your favourites down on the beach RIGHT NOW.

Hi TC, i guess you're right, the 'song of the day' thread really seems to be in intensive care...
but let me think of my summer hits of the past, hmm
the first song coming to my mind is 'the travelling riverside blues' in the Led Zeppelin version, especially when you're driving in the car, the weather's fine and you're on your way to a "beach party" at the lakes... it's one of the song that Pawel and me used to hear in our student days
it's embarrasing, but i have to admit, one of my first summer hits as an approx. 13 year old scholl boy was Barclay James Harvest's 'Hymn'.
oh my god, everybody seemed to love this song that time and i alway "connect" it with the first school parties, campfires and an exciting game called "Flaschendrehen", if you translate it word-by-word it would mean 'rotating the bottle'... but it was no drinking game...
to other songs of summer are 'I'm a believer' by the monkeys and Led Zeppelin's 'down by the seaside... not to forget the Eagles's 'Hotel California'...did i mention Otis Reddings 'sitting on the dock of the bay'? 'Hard to handle'? 'der Tag am Meer' by the Fanta 4?

For summer hits, anything goes. The more embarrassing the better.
Everyone likes something you can sing along to at the top of your voice. And summer parties and music when you were younger are always really corny. In those days, people got more drunk and the songs were more suitable for singing along anyway.
Although, Tub Thumping must be a great one for singing at parties.
He takes a Whisky Drink
He takes a Lager Drink
He takes a Cider Drink
He sings the songs that remind him of the good times, he sings the songs that remind him of the better times.
The kids round here call it Flaschendreherles. If they're sober enough to pronounce it.
*Wanders off again, this time singing ... Jesus came down, from heaven to earth, people said it was a virgin birth.....*
