An Odd Sort of Weekend

Being something of a smiley - mod, I like to try and make the most of my Bank Holiday. But it's been kind of odd so far.

Went out clubbing on Friday night, but it was kind of strange. Ended up at this sort of electronic night in Old Street. Not really my scene, but I was encouraged to. But not brilliant all-in, the ratio of girls to blokes was about 20/80. So I was there with my gay mate and his NFG workmates, and being on the pull wasn't really a go-er for me - I was basically surrounded by wall-to-wall blokes. Either gay blokes who naturally weren't my thing, or straight blokes who were just competition for the few girls that were there. And the music wasn't really my thing so it wasn't a great night on the whole, except there was a brilliant moment when they played Blue Monday by New Order. But apart from that I spent the last hour or so just wanting to get away. And then we spent a couple of hours in the park in Finsbury Circus in the City, having climbed the gates to get in, to chill out until the tubes started running. Which was nice.

So then not nearly enough sleep and it was off to see Argyle away at Watford, and we took the lead early and then went to sleep in defence and let in three silly goals and that was that. Then across to South London for my mate's 28th birthday, I'd made him a couple of compilation CDs that he really seemed to love and it was great to see my old University mates again. So we stayed in Balham until closing time and then a couple of us felt like trying a club we'd read about again in the Old Street area, but then when we got there we didn't fancy it and spent an hour and a half waiting for a night bus home and stayed up talking rubbish until the sun came up.

Today was a kind of chilling out day, got up late, watched the Olympics and then went to Islington to see a friend of mine tinkle the ivories in a kind of Richard Vranch on the piano capacity in a comedy improv night which was great fun, and stayed in the pub until we were asked to leave. Then we came back (and walked through Finsbury Park in the dark, which was kind of interesting) and have just watched the first half of Quadrophenia.

I have concluded two things. Firstly, I want a Vespa. And thanks to having sold my flat, I have the money to do buy one and I'm going to do it! Secondly, for those of you that have seen the film, I've realised that the girl I like right now is quite possibly Steph to my Jimmy. And therefore I must watch myself accordingly. Although unlike Jimmy, I am definitely a better option than the guy she's currently seeing, so there's hope...

Anyway, we'll have to see what tomorrow brings. I'm possibly going to the Notting Hill Carnival, although it kind of depends on who's going, so we'll see. smiley - zen

Muppetry on quite an advanced scale

A few weeks back, I did that life laundry sort of thing. I think I even mentioned it on here. Sorted out a load of books to reluctantly chuck out, that sort of thing.

Well, I eBayed six of them last week. Five sold, which made me about a tenner which isn't bad for stuff that would otherwise have been gathering dust and cluttering up my room. I may well eBay all my possessions...

The trouble is, now the money's arrived, I CAN'T REMEMBER WHERE I PUT THE DAMN BOOKS! And now I technically have only one room in a house rather than a whole flat, this shouldn't be able to happen. But I've sold stuff and I need to post it to its new owners but I might have put them in 'a place' after I photographed them to put them on eBay and I can't for the life of me work out where they could have got to.

This could have serious ramifications for any future eBaying.

Working on another Guide Entry...

...something rather dear to my heart, that I started about six months ago, and I've just put in a bit more work on it.

I'm taking it slowly, because I could easily make it seventy pages long and it's hard work trying to keep it focused and keep the length down while telling the whole story.

It feels good to be writing again.

Anyway, A2471348 if you fancy a look.

You might be seeing a bit less of me from now on

I've been trying to sort out my life recently, and I've realised I need to be setting aside time for some other things that I'm mainly spending on h2g2 at the moment. So I'm going to hand in my Scout's badge and this round of picks will be my last. It's been hugely enjoyable, and I hope to carry on serving the guide as a writer and occasional contributor to PR.

I'm going to be trying to spend less time on here in general, as well as in PR, and am planning to unsubscribe from a lot of the places where I usually hang out.

I'm going to carry on running the Geographical Entry society (A1286886)
until I can find someone else to take it over from me, so if anyone fancies that, do let me know.

You've all been lovely.

Cheers,
Number Six

My luck finally changes!

smiley - bubblysmiley - bubblysmiley - bubbly Thanks to Mr Desk and everyone else in the Virtual Supporters Club. We'd had a debate on 2-2 being the lowest scoreline that would send Sweden and Denmark through no matter what Italy did, and on Monday afternoon, I got an email from one Paddy Power offering me a free £20 bet if I placed one of my own with them as a new customer before midday Tuesday.

So I bet a £20 double in Italy beating Bulgaria and Denmark drawing 2-2 with Sweden as required. 9-2 on the draw, 2-9 on Italy.

So in the last minute of the game, Sweden having just equalised and I was just starting to berate myself for being greedy and going for a double at relatively small odds... when Italy finally scored in injury time, I took off my t-shirt and ran around the pub waving it around my head.

And for the first and probably last time in my life offered to buy drinks for the entire pub.

I feel better than James Brown smiley - drunksmiley - smiley
