Lost in Scotland Posted Jun 2, 2000
My friends here at work has come up with the annoying habit of calling me 'Tecuila' just because I had a couple of tequilas last friday. I mean, I only had about 10 or 11 shots. That ain't too much, is it? I usually don't drink tequila, though. I usually go for Vodka and Red Bull. Or the different ready-to-drink drinks, like Bacardi Rigo, Bacardi Breezer, Smirnoff Ice and the likes.
I hope you had a good night out last night, and that you didn't get too much out of hand and into any trouble.

Night out, some chance! I was getting ready to walk out the door when my boss from the pub rang asking me to work. Seeing as we were planning to go down to pub anyway I said "no problem" and didn´t finish until 2.30am. It wasn´t really too bad though as all my friends were sitting in the corner, so when it got quiet I was able to talk to them a bit.
So, there´s always tonight !! One of the girls finishes in the pub tonight, and that´s always occasion for a big party - of course I´m just waiting for that to fall through too!!
10 or 11 shots? Nahh, that´s not too much
What a wondrous thing...
Lost in Scotland Posted Jun 2, 2000
Isn't that just the best ever when they call you in a panic and asks you to get to work? I did that at a nursing home for about 18 months. The problem with that was that they called at around 7 am ito get me to work, mostly weekends. I guess they called me cause I lived about 5 minutes walk from work, so I could be out of bed and at work in about 10-15 minutes. BUt I made lots of money on it.
Going-away-parties are almost always fun. That's what the party was last friday, after which they started calling me 'Tequila'. That was a good party, though.
What a wondrous thing...
violagirl Posted Jun 3, 2000
You´ll never guess.. the party last night kind of fell through as well!! We drank cocktails at a friend´s place (I´ll have to give you the recipe for the Niedersachsen Knee crumbler it´s lethal), and then went to the pub, where everyone got tired and went home. I stayed out with a few others though, so at least my friend got a few drinks and a bit of fun.
Tonight - Irish Pub again, another going away, but the PLAN this time is to have a quiet evening (it´ll probably be mad though!)
What a wondrous thing...
Lost in Scotland Posted Jun 5, 2000
Seems to me you're having bad luck with the nights out. But then again, sometimes the pre-parties are far better than the outings themselves. I bet that the "quiet" night out was totally mad, since you hadn't planned it to be mad. That's usually when you have the wildest parties.
The Niedersachsen Knee Crumbler? Sounds really interesting. I think I would like that recipe. I could have a lot of fun with it.
I was such a couch potato this weekend. Moved some stuff to the new apartment on saturday and then spent the whole night watching TV, like Rocky III (BBC has a Rocky-season on right now) and some other really weird stuff. Spent Sunday watching the Monaco Grand Prix (Scottish victory David Coulthard) and then doing nothing else. Too weird weather to do anything else.
What a wondrous thing...
violagirl Posted Jun 5, 2000
I´m jealous! What I wouldn´t give for a weekend sitting on a couch watching TV (I have no couch and no TV!). Have to say I wasn´t too pleased about the race results - I´m more of a Frenzen fan myself. But hey, at least Irvine finished!!
The quiet night out actually was a quiet night out! Except for the fact that my flatmates came in at 1am and started a sing-song. It wouldn´t have been a problem had they actually had an ounce of talent! (oops, getting a little catty there!) I actually can´t wait for them to move out at the end of the month.
Staying in tonight (well, if the willpower hold out!)

Frentzen? Now that's a bit unusual, isn't it? Any particular reason for that? I would've thought that you'd be an Eddie Irvine fan, coming from Ireland and all. But then again, Frentzen is German, and you're in Germany so I can't really argue with the logic, since I'm only a Swede living in Scotland, and I'm a Coulthard fan.
Anyhow... Nuff about that.
Sure, the weekend in front of the tv was nice, but I really should have done more with it. I'm in the midst of moving to another apartment, and I thought I'd get some stuff moved to the new place this weekend, but since I got stuck in front of the TV, I didn't get anything moved, except my CD's, videos and books, so I'm now left with nothing to actually do. Might have been a subconsious thing to tell me to get started with my packing instead of laying around reading and in general wasting time. Who knows?
What a wondrous thing...
violagirl Posted Jun 6, 2000
Right, I'll explain the Frenzen thing. You see he drives for Jordan (an Irish team), and he's the only German driver I can stand, so I figured it was a good combination for being over here. Anyway, he's god - he nearly won the world championship last season.
I know the feeling of having a wasted weekend, but i always feel that they are worth the effort (or lack of effort!), escpecially when there's a tough week coming up!
Best go - lectures calling (not too loudly or convincingly though!)
What a wondrous thing...
Lost in Scotland Posted Jun 6, 2000
Of course. I should have taken the team into consideration as well. And you are right, Frentzen is a good driver. I think it was a pity that his championship contention fell through in the last couple of races last year. It would have been good to see someone from another team than McLaren and Ferarri winning the championship for a change. Well, okay, Damon Hill and Jaques Villeneuve won in the Williams a few years back, but still.
I think that this past weekend was good in a sense, cause these past two days, we've had a heck of a lot more to do than we've had before this year. So it's good that I didn't do anything this weekend, to preserve strength and awareness for the onslaught of callers we've experienced today and yesterday. Or something... It sounded good, though.
Anyways, on with work! Wahoo!!!
What a wondrous thing...
violagirl Posted Jun 7, 2000
It's raining and I had to work. Seeing as I was supposed to be working behind the bar for the beergarden, I didn't exactly get much done. But hey, I got paid for it!!
I really wish the weather would make up it's mind about what it's doing. Tonight I am going out. There WILL be a party - no-one else has a choice in the matter!!! Maybe this time it'll happen
What a wondrous thing...
Lost in Scotland Posted Jun 8, 2000
I think you're right. The weather better make it's mind up pretty soon, or we'll sue someone. It's frickin' June! Where's the summer's sun? Okay, so I'm in Scotland, and they say they've had 2 good summers in the last 7 years, but still. Can't it give us a break?
Bartending seems to be such a cool thing to do. I've always wanted to try it out, at least for a while. I can see why you wouldn't have much to do in a beergarden when it rains, but any way to get the money is a good way, right?
Tonight they want to have a gathering for the people that came here a year ago. Just to basically celebrate the fact that we've survived the bureaucracy and people giving opposing facts all the time making life really strange for us. Problem is that I had to pay the phone bill yesterday, and now i have about £40 to last me til the 24th... *sigh*
What a wondrous thing...
violagirl Posted Jun 8, 2000
OK, that is a feeling I know. I went out last night - my friend's last night of her visit, so there had to be a party. We spent over 100DM between us. Now, that's only 40 pounds, but over here it would keep me going for over two weeks. Seeing as I'm off to Madrid on Tuesday, it's not pleasant being broke! I just have to pray that I get some tips at work today - at least the weather is better though!
What a wondrous thing...
Lost in Scotland Posted Jun 8, 2000
Isn't it funny how there almost seems to be a whole lot of month left at the end of every salary? With 40 quid (and a buffer of 20 more in a Swedish account) I have to get through two weeks of basic living, a "one-year-since-we-got-here" party, an american football game and the coming Euro2000 parties. I will definitely live on pasta and frozen food the last week before pay day. That really sucks.
But then again, that's part of life, I guess. Hopefully I'll get a raise as I finish my 12-month review at work. An extra 50 quid a month.*hope, hope, hope*
What a wondrous thing...
violagirl Posted Jun 8, 2000
Well I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you!! I got enough tips this afternoon to pay for lunch tomorrow - so I'm guaranteed at least one good meal this week!!
I'm going mad, checking my e-mail every hour waiting from an e-mail from a friend who seems to have disappeared off the face of the earth. Annoying. (and quite pathetic on my part - I hate being dependent on machines!)
What a wondrous thing...
Lost in Scotland Posted Jun 9, 2000
Hmmmm... Official funding total for the rest of the month: £30 - £12 to go to Glasgow tomorrow. That means that I've got £18 til the 24th. Wahoo. Life is great. At least it's not raining.
Having money for decent meals are always good. We went out yesterday, celebrating the fact that we've been here for a year. Had the most marvellous "Mexican burger" to eat. Basically a regular burger that they had chucked some salsa sauce over. Really, really good stuff. But I guess that's the last of the "real" meals for this month. I'll have to go to the "pasta and whatever's in the cupboard" menu for the next two weeks. Which could be quite nice some times, but still...
Did you have any luck finding that friend of yours?
What a wondrous thing...
violagirl Posted Jun 9, 2000
Pasta and whatever´s in the cupboard - it seems you and I will be eating the same tonight!!
No response from my friend, and it´s not like I can call around and see where he is - he lives in England and e-mail is our only way of contact. His brother lives near me, so if the worst comes to the worst I can always contact his brother, I don´t want to though. So I´ll just keep waiting. The rest of my friends living outside Germany are really pleased though. Me checking my mail so often means that I send them more mails than usual!
Enjoy the weekend!

Back!
Long weekend this weekend, due to the church holiday of Christ's ascension (sp?).
So, what's happened during the weekend?
Went to Glasgow on saturday to watch the game between Scottish Claymores and Rhein Fire (American Football). Great game. Took a chunk out of my ever decreasing bank account, though. Then I made the mitake of telling my sister I didn't have any money left, and she couldn't keep her mouth shut, so my folks just put about £100 in the account for me. Damnit, I had £1.64 on my account and £15 in 1-, 2-, 5- and 10-pence coins. I would've survived!! Why do parents always have to be like that?
And I moved house during the weekend as well. Damn good to get out of the old house. And that's not because I didn't like the house, I loved it. Just that it was too far away from everything, and my roomie prioritised stuff like buying DVD's and going on vacation trips instead of paying the bills. So I'm glad to be out of there.
And Sweden lost 1-2 against Belgium in the opening of Euro2000. Major bummer.
What a wondrous thing...
violagirl Posted Jun 22, 2000
I´m back from a great week in Madrid - and now my parents are here on a visit. The advantage of that is that I haven´t had to pay a penny for food so far this week. They keep taking me out for dinner, I haven´t eaten so well since, well since I was home at Easter!! Not that I eat badly when I cook, but who wants to buy and cook salmon!!
The weather here has been so hot that I ended up with heat exhaustion on Tuesday - apparently it was the hottest day on record in Germany, so I don´t feel that bad about it!
How´s the new house??
What a wondrous thing...
Lost in Scotland Posted Jun 22, 2000
I agree that it's great to have relatives come visit. Especially if it's your mother or grand mother or something like that, because not only do they take you out to dinner, they can also do magic in the kitchen at home. I mean, I consider myself pretty inventive in the kitchen and I can whip something up from basically anything in the cupboards, but when I hade my mom and grand mother over a couple of months ago... Ye Gods what wonders they could come up with.
We haven't had too much of a heat wave here. There was a spell of really hot and stuffy weather on sunday, but that passed. Today, we've got 12-13 C and rain... Good old Scotland.
New place is good. Still haven't managed to get everything sorted, so my room is more or less a disaster zone. But I'll get going with the unpacking and general settling in soon. Really soon. But first, I'll just have to.... Do stuff.. you know.
First misunderstanding has occured as well. Apparently, the Estate agency had told some other tenants in the house that they could come and pick a fridge up from our apartment, and they had "forgotten" to tell us (me in this case) about it. Subsequently, when the tenants in the other apartment came to pick it up, I told them that they couldn't have it. And that's all because the Estate agency told our colleagues who live in our apartment before us that the other tenants would come get the fridge and then just assumed that they would tell me about it. Oh well, it all worked out, and they got their fridge yeaterday.
Other than that, all is well.
What a wondrous thing...
violagirl Posted Jun 25, 2000
The family are gone and peace has returned!! They´ve been driving me insane for the past few days - in the nicest possible way of course! And I always thought that I was a person who needed to live near her family. Now I know that the quote I read once was true "Happiness is having a very close-knit happy family - in another city"
I´ll be back at home in three weeks now. I´ll have to start the mental training to prepare myself for the loss of freedom - although there is one possible good point - they might be taking me to L.A. with them for a while, becuase my Dad has to work there for the summer.
Oh dear, fridge troubles!! At least it got sorted though.
I´m gearing up for a fight with my flatmates, they are all leaving this week as their term has finished, but the phone bill hasn´t come through yet. This could be fun!!
