Pierre de la Mer ~ sometimes slightly worried but never panicking ~

News have come to us from a German scholar who found an old document, showing how Donald Trump's grandfather evaded military service and instead migrated to the US where he opened a brothel during the gold rush and made the family fortune

Jim in Bradford told me about a documentary on tv telling how the grandpa ripped those affected by gold fever so this is probably not news to him, is it, Jim?

It's lucky that Trump's grandfather didn't try o come over to the U.S. when the Know-Nothings were at the zenith of their influence. By the 1880s, when Trump came over, the gates were wide open. Between 1880 and 1920, more than 20 million immigrant came over.

Emma Goldman, who was born the same year as Trump, was deported to Russia in 1919. Could Trump have been deported? No! His native country didn't want him back! smiley - tongueout

Well, Australia has rather a lot of gold.

The time line seems about right as far as Trump was concerned. He arrivedi n the U.S. in 1885. meanwhile, Australia, "n 1885, following a call by the Western Australian government for a reward for the first find of payable gold, a discovery was made at Halls Creek, sparking a gold rush in that state."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_gold_rushes

So, yes, there would have been gold miners both in the U.S. and in Australia at the time Trump left Europe. His main interest seems to have been profiting from the prostitution trade. I don't knowm how the two countries compared in that area. smiley - shrug

I was thinking of all the British criminals and prostitutes that were forced to move to Australia. Surely the continent would have room for a Trump also

President Trump has a sister who is a judge on the circuit court of appeals. He had an uncle who was a distinguished electrical engineer. I would not knock the whole family, just the one member who lives in a white house in the District of Columbia.

The family history is one of questionable finances and outright fraud.

The president seems to be acting as if he has a lot to hide. For most of us, though, getting to the bottom of what would have been acceptable or unacceptable estate management methods in the late 20th century would be prohibitive. A very few experts could cope with it. I remember a special annuity that my parents' assets were put into so that my mother could go into a nursing home in 2012.

One adverse judicial ruling on a tax-avoidance method could throw a monkey wrench into the estates of hundreds of thousands of people. perhaps that will happen someday regarding Fred Trump's legacy. Surely a lot of people will be affected, not just the Trump siblings?

Fred Trump and his father do not sound like the sort of people I would enjoy living next to, but then I wouldn't be able to afford their neighborhoods anyway. smiley - shrug I'm just a spectator when it comes to seeing or reading about these things. smiley - sadface

I have it on good authority that having a lot of money makes your life a lot more complicated. Wen I inherit some of my late father's money, that will be a complication for a while.

In "The Big Short," the character played by Brad Pitt said that seeds are the only real wealth in this life. smiley - wow At last, someone who really gets it!

His infamous "go back to where you came from" tweet, while perfectly in character for "The Occupant", may very well simply be a calculated distraction. What is Trump trying to distract us from? His close association with Epstein seems to be the odds on favorite.

There are restrictions on what Trump can do, so he resorts to talking.

hose who can, do.

Those who can't, become Trump. What skills does the man have? Letting him stay in the White House is an act of charity, but having to listen to or read about his rants is not easy on the rest of us. smiley - sadface
