Good/bad or anywhere in between "we" are who we are
I say to folk:- I don't pay anyone to be in my company, they are in my company by their own free will

I bow down to our Viking heritage
Our! Capital is York - aka! Jorvik!
Through my granddad's lineage I actually have part "Viking" DNA in me
Not 100% sure ? but I'm 100% want to be

Jorvik is a nice city these days. I was there during the foot and mouth disaster i 2001. At the time there were still 365 pubs within in the city walls and we were only there for 14 days. So we were busy

it was just that I was busy with other stuff plus I needed to go to bed early

Ny colleagues and I were given a tour through the Jorvik Centre even before the new exhibition was opened. In fact they were still working on it when we were there. We were sat in smal seats moved along by a conveyor belt and suddenly it stopped for several minutes before they could get the ruddy contraption to function again
During those minutes I was sitting beside a model of a viking who obviously had severe problems with his stomach. He was moaning and groaning all the time and it was quite lifelike so I was as releaved as he was when we finally got out of there

"He was moaning and groaning all the time" (mainly on how much it costs)
That's us Yorkshire folk Viking DNA

I told my landlord back then that one of my colleagues was a direct descendant of Eric Blood Axe (a famous viking chieftain buried in Jorvik a long time ago).
This claim was of course not true (as far as I know) but made up by me on the spot
But landlord took one glance at my colleague and simply said: "I see the resemblance"
That part of course was true. My colleague looked like a bloodthirsty viking with his long beard and bloodshot eyes

As with many historical "events/era's etc - Words written are NOT always true to actual historyDue to films/books and the like.
Vikings were NOT savages etc as "recorded/depicted" But were traders/explorers and integrated with many people/places they met as they travelled the world (in those days as such)

Some vikings were actually bad company but it is true that the majority of them soon found out it was more lucrative and safer to trade than fight

28 March 845 the Danish Viking Regnar Lodbrog sailed up the Seine with 150 ships and held Paris at ransom. The king of the Franks, Karl II, paid Lodbrog 7000 pounds of silver for leaving Paris without destroying it. A gargantuan sum at that time!
