Living in the middle of acres of vineyards as I do, I have never even thought of buying "cooking wine" - nor have I ever seen such a thing in the shops. I might buy a slightly lower grade white wine for cooking, but I'd still drink it - maybe not neat, but use it for making spritzers. Ditto red wine - we have some very good red wines which really are too good for cooking with. I'd get some local plonk for cooking and would still drink it as a Glühwein.
