Bravo, kea.
It will be interesting to see the reply - if they reply.
Meanwhile, Nick answered about the missing features.
I hope something positive will come of that, since I know that Sam and Chris care about the site, as does Nick.

Thanks Bel
Yes I was heartened by Nick's appearance and reassurance that they're not trying to dumb down the site.
He then did that patronising dismissal of the bug problems

And I agree, I think all three of them care about the site.

Here's to Damnyoureyes who seemed to be working in the middle of the night!
I didn't think we'd been abandoned when I wrote post 7. I was also glad that Nick took the time to acknowledge a little of the situation.
I guess that as an executive he will not be involved in the cut and thrust of reading/replying to many different threads on h2g2 and therefore not fully understand our position over loss of functionality. I am subscribed to Ask, as lots of interesting and intelligent stuff happens there. It is easy to unsubscribe from things that don't interest me, or ones that I lost interest in. I hope that when things settle we will have that functionality back again( of being able to unsub without going *into* the thread).
Also, it's necessary for me to have loads of PR threads ongoing even if I only lurk in them. It would make life nearly impossible if I had to use the present Barleyesque conversations counter to calculate whereabouts I had read up to. - I am not very good with sums, and at the moment I need to work out how many pages of ten back from the end I was up to. Please let us have this bit back at the very least.
I like some of the new things, one which was possible but I never understood or got round to doing it, was to see who had you as a Friend - now this bit is automatic ( Followers) The terminology is the same as on Stumbleupon or maybe Twitter too. I don't tweet, I don't consider my life interesting enough. Anyway it's good to see who has me on their Friends list.
So, I am going for more and I've just taken my family to the airport Honestly, it was tears nearly all round as I won't be seeing them for ages now. I've got to de-sand the house, tidy away all the buckets and spades and snorkels and roller boots. I've got *loads* of washing to do. I've stacked the dishwasher and need to change another couple of beds. So between the housework and the new h2g2 it will keep my mind off missing them too much.

Hi, Lanzababy.
One positive about the new site is the relative lack of clutter on the screen. The sites that I respect the most put information at a few clicks away from the opejing page, with a logical search path. I think that was part of then intention in the new H2G2 site.
So, the new site only lists the first five conversations, but when you click on "see more conversations," you get a much longer list. I would like to see a more detailed longer list, but that could be provided without changing the opening page.

Lanzababy - Guide Editor Posted Jan 23, 2011
Hi paul There is a longer list on your personal space, under the Conversations tab. At the moment, there seems to be a limit on the number of conversations showing, to which you are subscribed. In the older version of h2g2 you could go right back in time.

That's what I was talking about, Lanzababy. I'm probably subscribed to 15,000 conversations by now, and would not be likely to go back to most of them, but I'm sure there must be a way to go back pretty far in the new layout.

If you are watching the official announcements, the question seems to be who will own h2g2 six months from now. It won't be the bbc.
I went through one of these ownership changes before and I must warn you there may be a period during which we will have no access to anything we have done here.
So I am saving a backup copy of all my articles on my hard drive.

Modern life is about taking stuff from one website and transferring it to another. The everpresent danger of viruses and crashes necessitates my use of Google docs. So, I may well create duplicates of my best stuff on my computer *and* in Google docs. Now, I hope nothing disastrous happens to Google.

We're being told that this side will be retained for the foreseeable future. No need to worry, my friend.

Assuming I have enough money to go to London, the only other snag would be the scheduling. My Spring concert is April 10. I hope the meet won't be scheduled for that weekend...

We should find out next week which weekend we will be using for the next London Meet.
Paul, your concert will be okay, as we are looking at May, not April

Yes, but the concert is on 10th April, so wouldn't clash with the meet in any case.

At the rate we're going, Boston will still be getting snowstorms by April 16. Whatever.
