But we are clever! What does it cost to fake a penny? 
And does it have to refer to money? It could also be a fifty-year-old man. A kind of advanced "Don't trust anyone who is over 30"

No, it definitely refers to money. Not sure whether it's meant to be our former 50 Pf coin, or 50.00 DM bill, though. Probably the first.
