I won't be in tonight - we have the 'talent show' tonight, and the wind is howling and it's colder than a popsicle out there...my sister and bro in law are picking us up to take us two blocks, that's how cold it is. smiley - brr

So wish us luck!

Well, I did a slide show to go with my Guide Entry on a local legend. smiley - laugh And they laughed in the right places, and said afterwards that they enjoyed it.

And I played the piano for a lady who sang a comic song - we wore costumes, and acted like she was the world's worst soprano, etc. It was funny.

And my sister played a singalong song, and some young women from the local college did rhythm steps - sort of a dance - and then sang. Beautiful voices. smiley - magic

And one young man recited the Gettysburg Address in costume, and the kids sang, and someone played a saxophone...basically, a good time was had.

And we collected money for the Uganda mission, so it was for a good cause. smiley - winkeye

smiley - laugh You know, I don't know. I know the pastor made a video, but I have no idea what they'll do with it.

But yeah, it's a nice tradition.

smiley - laugh No. Our pianist was pretending to be a 'princess' who wanted to be an opera singer. So she wore a tiara and had a fairy wand. I just put on a long suit coat, a big hat, and a scarf to be the melodramatic piano player.

Most everybody else didn't wear a costume - they wore regular clothes, except for the girls from the university marching group, they had camo outfits. Nice kids. smiley - smiley

smiley - snork Yeah. Pretty black girls. And they had a singing group - they can really sing, too.

Surprising how much talent we have in a small group. One of the boys played the saxophone - that makes at least 3 saxophone players in the church. And a bunch of people sang. smiley - biggrin

How true - history would be much more fun if it didn't have wars in.

As I keep telling my clients. smiley - winkeye

This week, I have to write about the Enlightenment and the Declaration of Independence, which makes a nice change. smiley - laugh

"Declaration of Independence" That seems to me to be a big yoke around the American neck (? might just be me looking at it wrong) but your guns laws can't be touched because of it (am I right in "the right to bear arms" ?)
and they stop dead anyone from wanting to rewrite or amend them ?

No, no. You've got it wrong. smiley - rofl But that's okay, the stock photo company did, too, darn it - and they should know better.

The Declaration of Independence is the 1776 document that talks about human rights - and says smiley - nahnah to King George III.

The Constitution is the one with the rights in. smiley - winkeye It's called the Bill of Rights. And we CAN amend the Constitution - it just takes a lot of work to do it. We've amended the thing 27 times now.

The argument about the Second Amendment is endless - it was designed to allow for state militias. But...oh, heck, I don't wanna talk about it, because I've had to write lessons on it.

In Switzerland, I understand, you HAVE to keep a gun in your house in case the Austrians invade. smiley - winkeye But you can't keep any bullets around. Now that makes some kind of sense...

smiley - rofl I hear you.

So that's why I enjoy the lesson on the Declaration. It's basically just explaining about 18th century political philosophy - John Locke, David Hume, etc. And then talking about Tom Paine, etc. I'll bet Elektra says it's boring again.

She says that about ALL the Civics stuff I've written this year. Elektra likes the history much better. smiley - laugh
