smiley - puff Sorry. I was out in the woods. Deep woods. Watching the Indians massacre the British. smiley - rofl

This is the weekend for the French and Indian War re-enactors in Cook Forest. smiley - biggrin Just amazing. The French fired their cannons. Everybody fired muskets. And the Indians came whooping in...best re-enactment EVER!

We talked to an author, and got an autographed book. Got another book about a local battle. Bought some pottery and a horn spoon. Took pics.

I'll write it up as soon as my pics get developed - we had to use film, 'cause Sis forgot her digital camera.

It wasn't hot, but it was DAMP. Heavy rain yesterday, and 94% humidity in the forest.

Can you imagine that damp air full of musket smoke? It was a very hazy fracas, let me tell you. And LOUD.

I hope you sleep well tonight. smiley - hug

I don't know how you manage to get bored. smiley - puff I always have so much to do.

Today: revised a movie script, loaded the Post articles for next week, did the front page and editorial, attended a Skype meeting with the team, checked on the doctor's appointment for tomorrow, etc.

Bro in law found us an apple tree and a couple of blueberry bushes. smiley - smiley He'll come over and plant them tomorrow while I'm at the doc's.

And we've got peppers, cucumbers, tomatoes and beans planted out there. Also some herbs and flowers. With all this rain, they should get a good start.

Now to distract the ground hog...

Yeah, but aren't there free things you can do? Or cheap things?

I know, at our age long walks aren't much fun, but hey, there has to be something out there that's fun and doesn't cost much.

Remember a month or two ago, we did a Create challenge called 'cheap thrills'?

I had some cousins whose idea of a cool thing to do in Memphis was 'go down to the co'nah stoah for a' RC an' a' moon pah'. To each his own. smiley - rofl

[RC=Royal Crown Cola. Moon pie = sweet sandwich cake.]

Me, I LIKE being alone. I'm like my grandfather was - okay with people, but perfectly content in my own company.

Last weekend was fun - and, let's face it, cheap.

Last Saturday, we drove out to the forest and saw the re-enactment. This cost nothing.

We bought a few souvenirs. But they didn't cost much, and it was to support the local folks' crafts and stuff.

Then we had a picnic my sister brought. The only thing we spent any money on was minigolf - my bro in law sprung for that, 7 bucks apiece, and Elektra refused to play, she just kept score. smiley - laugh

Nah, I got that. smiley - winkeye

Yeah, mostly we call it 'putt-putt' golf. Germans all call it minigolf, I think.

We hadn't played in years, either, but we passed a course on the country road, and my bro in law suddenly had the urge. smiley - rofl

the only places like that now are in the coastal holiday resorts etc, when I was a kid (50's(single figuressmiley - winkeye)) in our local park, there was a mini golf/swings/roundabouts etc and a tarmacked "road set up" for pedal cars - but as time moved forward, so grew vandalismsmiley - sadface

That's a shame. smiley - sadface

There was some nice playground equipment over at the state park for the kids. Near the campground.

And they had impressively nice toilets, as well. smiley - laugh

You know some of that area's primeval forest? My bro in law wants to take me there when the naturalist gives the walking tour. smiley - laugh It's the 'Longfellow Forest'.

Elektra's got some supper ready, so I'm off.

If I'm not around tomorrow, it'll be because I couldn't get rid of the company after my doctor's appointment. smiley - winkeye

Take care! smiley - run
