Well, when we got here two months ago, it was below zero, and two feet of snow on the ground. Today, it's in the 80s.

It's kind of a shock to the system.

is the house insulation ok etc and is there any comparison to the apartment you were in ?

House insulation is excellent, but right now, we don't have the a/c units in. And I can't lift them, so I'll have to wait for help from bro-in-law.

We have one ceiling fan downstairs, which makes the living room cool but noisy. And having the windows open in the upstairs makes it like being on the street as far as noise.

could you not get shut of the ceiling fan and replace with a tower fan ? ie mobile to any room in the house

That wouldn't make sense - the ceiling fan's fine, but my brother in law says it needs an adjustment. And I'm going to look into finding a box fan for the hallway upstairs.

The a/c's just window units. They're just too heavy to put in the windows alone, especially with a bad back.

is it that the fans blades are out of aliment ?

I'm not sure. If it goes too fast, it makes a lot of noise.
