Thursday 11th Nov, 2.00am power cut and off for about 30 mins, then another power cut for about 5 mins at 5.45am. Didn't think anything of them as such, BUT! over the weekend my monitor/graphics card seemed to be throwing a wobbler, I asked a neighbour(who "repairs" pc's)if he'd check monitor and grapics card (of which I took them across for him. He told me that the striplight in the monitor had blown and he's looked on ebay, where they were about £2/3 and that he'd try and get one for me(I took him at his word, being a friend/neighbour). In the meantime, on the Wednesday my good friend ST came with a spare monitor to put me on and here's a BUT againon trying the monitor the graphics was somewhat scrambled, it came to passthat a mate from close by HAD a spare monitor(I only found that out in the afternoon, as ST was enroute)that was tried and the graphics effect was the sameST's diagonostic was that the situation wasn't good (it's me ain't it)SO on the Thursday ST headed home, taking my pc/monitor to do a full diagnostic, turned out that the PC was totally fried, along with fried monitor WHICH! did NOT have a striplight in it (I now know not to ask that neighbour for any future advice regarding pc's). Above and beyond the call of duty (and embedding what true friendship is)he returned Friday morning with a spare pc to allow me to to have access to the internet AND hootoo of course, as I was suffering withdrawal symptoms after ONLY one day of no pc
I am now waiting for a claim form from the housing, to see if I can claim on my contents insurance for the pc and also for the house security system, that has also been put out of order by the power cut/surge

I pass my thanks and appreciation to ST for his time and friendship, with just saying "thank you" seeming so little

I'm going to guess you dont have your pc connected to a surge protector
its horrible when things happen to a persons computer, darn temperamental things

Prof did have an 8 socket surge protector but for some strange reason only 3 out of the 8 sockets actually tripped. He's also had damage to the elctronics for his home burglar alarm system too. I can't see either items being, in insurance language, economical for repair.

Maybe you should get some go faster stripes

ST says that most anti surge only protect amp/currant surges not voltage, only the more expensive do both - belkin being the best

phone call this morning (Saturday) insurance assessor coming Wednesday morninghope he's in a cheerful mood

Wed' phone call from assessor, he set off but the road conditions after a few mile caused him to return home, he's arranged another call for next Tues' morning
