This is my latest entry for 's The Stretcher. Fiction is, of course, not my strong point...

This is great fun and definitely sophisticated!
The sentence beginning "in the manner of a man who did not care..."
seems a bit convoluted.

Oh, if we're pointing out small errors:
I guess 'result assured' should be 'rest assured'
(Aside: where did the wall go? )

I've fixed the typo, but I'm leaving the convoluted sentence the way it is. The wall was removed to make way for the Atlantic

It's just dawned on me that your country house isn't very tropical. I don't think you get oaks in the tropics.
Eucalyptus perhaps?

AlexAshman Posted Jun 9, 2009
Au contraire - some oaks can exist in the tropics, including in central America and southeast Asia.

I'm still not convinced it's tropical, though, sorry
A peninsula in the Atlantic could be anywhere, and the names Bathos and Lobscouse smack more of German and Greek origin. And I think I spotted a typo, let me check.
But a very entertaining tale

Ah yes, the country house becomes a county house...
